<!--%kramer-ref-pre%-->[...] Posted: Jun Fri 9th 2006 12:11pm I used FireFox 1.0.7 until just 4 days ago, and I never had the copy / paste problem there. But when I uninstalled it and installed 1.5.0.4 instead, I got it. When it happen, I can fix it temporarily by using one of two quick tricks; Trick #1. Pressing ALT + TAB twice. This changes from the "bad" FireFox window to another window, then back again, and now the FireFox window is working again. The only times that this would not work was if I had just that one window, but I usually have a lot of windows - especially since I don't use "tabbed browsing" Also, since the error happens under a copy/paste operation, I usually copy from one window and paste into another window.. Trick #2. By minimizing, then restoring the FireFox window. This is not as quick as quick as trick #1, but it is still pretty quick when I do it with keyboard shortcuts; Press and hold down ALT + SPACEBAR, then press "N", then "ENTER", then release ALT + SPACEBAR I have read about the Adware.Advertmen - the "pushow**.dll" http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/adware.advertmen.html and I don't have this or any other trojans, ad/spywares or rootkits on my pc. My question is this..; I have read that there are more than one copy/paste bug, and also that - if I understood that correctly - at least one of the bugs already *have* been fixed. Can anyone tell - from my description of it - if the bug that *I* have is fixed? And - if so, is there any update I may apply, or some patch I may use? When I tried to follow the link about the fixed bug, I came to just a code snippet for nsClipboard.cpp http://neosmart.net/blog/archives/111 http://neosmart.net/blog/archives/141 https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=133439 https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/attachment.cgi?id=214898 One of the comments there is a bit like my bug, in that "minimizing, then restoring" trick work, but for him, only CTRL + C or CTRL + V stopped working, the right-click context menu would show Copy/Paste. This is different from my bug. For me, neither CTRL + V, nor right-click -> Paste, nor selecting from FireFox menu Edit -> Paste will work. CTRL + V doesn't do anything, and the "Paste" selections are greyed out. I also noticed: If I first copy from one window, then open a new FireFox window to paste - if that window is "bad" and not possible to paste in, then if I open yet another new FireFox window, that one will *always* also be "bad". So this seems as the only "reproducible" thing I can see in this bug. And: I often have 10 - 15 FireFox windows open at once, and as far as I can tell, the "bad" window effect only spreads to *new* FireFox windows, those that I open *after* I have first got the error in one window. I have not (yet) seen the error being spread to windows that I have opened earlier, *before* the "bad" window became "bad". ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ BTW, Off-topic: I guess I will never, ever, go back to Internet Explorer...! I got spywares and trojans about twice a month when using that. (OK, I stopped using resident anti-virus programs - i.e. Norton AntiVirus - in 2003, so my only protection is due to my Netopia router) However - after changing to FireFox, I have only got *one* single attack in a 7 months period! My guess is that almost all the malware I used get when using IE, came through ActiveX, it is probably much easier for a malware-writer to make ActiveX than JavaScript/Java attacks.
I also have this problem. I don't want to get rid of FF, but if no solution is found, that may be my only recourse. :-(

This bug has NOT BEEN FIXED.

I don't have pushow, and the new Firefox doesn't fix the problem.

For me, cut/paste seldom works via ctrl-c/ctrl-v, but does work if you use the menu EDIT selections for Cut and Paste.

I get hit with this bug every day, and I'm really getting sick of it.

[...] At a recent open house at Google’s Mountain View headquarters, a manager for Google Maps gave a presentation on the making of Maps. The majority of his presentation focused on the challenge of programming for web browsers. There are many different web browsers (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera being the major ones) and they all behave differently. The ability to drag the map in Google Maps around without reloading was the result of days of hair-pulling by Google engineers, “Ph.D.’s in browser quirks.” These little differences in behavior between Firefox and IE, and heck, different versions of Firefox and IE can be enough to drive the average programmer insane.
obviously, if you haven't seen the bug, then it can't exist.

that's American logic.

I just had it happen to me and it's extremely frustrating because it renders the form and web accessability completely useless for several hours. It seems to work days later sometimes, and is DAMN HARD to reproduce at times. I've seen others reproduce it and I know it can be.

This one I was on collarme.com and it refused to allow me to paste into a form box, just 20 minutes ago.

Anyone wants to come sit here by my keyboard and watch me try to reproduce it is welcome, but if any developers need me to do screenshots or whatnot, I can do that.

It's just I know that not one of them will ask me. They haven't even worked on the problem.
