This disk can be used to access system recovery tools, giving you options of using an antivirus, System Restore, document and picture backup and recovery, automated system repair, and a command-line prompt for manual advanced recovery.
In recent years, it has become a trend for Microsoft and computer makers like Dell, Acer, HP, Toshiba, Lenovo to no longer provide a copy of the real Windows 7 installation disc when you buy a new PC or laptop. Instead, users are expected to create “recovery media” on a USB or DVD themselves — but what happens when your PC isn’t working and you’ve never made or lost the recovery disks?
Computer manufacturer just don’t want to spend the money (or perhaps take on the responsibility) of giving you a Windows 7 installation DVD to accompany your expensive purchase. But PCs fail, and when you can’t boot into Windows any more, there’s nothing that can save you but a bootable repair/recovery CD or USB stick.
The Windows 7 installation media serves more than one purpose: it’s not just a way to get Windows installed, it’s also the only way of recovering a damaged installation. The Windows 7 DVD has a complete “recovery center” that provides you with the option of recovering your system via automated recovery (searches for problems and attempts to fix them automatically), rolling-back to a system restore point, recovering a full PC backup, or accessing a command-line recovery console for advanced recovery purposes.
NeoSmart Technologies has created a powerful Windows 7 recovery disc to replace the one you didn’t get or no longer have. It’s a 55 to 135 MiB download ready to burned directly to a CD or DVD and used to fix your computer. It contains an antivirus scanner, access to system restore, tools to browse and back up your important documents and data, memory diagnostics, and command-line tools for advanced repair procedures. Please note that this download is no longer free, due to licensing restrictions imposed upon us.
Use this disk when your PC isn’t working, you can’t boot into Windows to carry out repair options, startup repair doesn’t work for you, you don’t have recovery discs, or other recovery programs have failed. You cannot use the Windows 7 Recovery Disc to reinstall Windows – it only fixes (not replaces!) Windows.
