Nonfunctional LinuxMint12/Lisa boot menu selection

Hi!
I have succeeded in adding LinuxMint 12 as an entry, in my Windows 7 multi-boot menu.

I have the installation in an Extended Partition named sda3. The logical partitions inside this, relevant to the LinuxMint installation are:

* sda9 boot (containing grub and the PBC -- I didn't overwrite the Windows 7 whole-drive boot sector, during Mint's installation -- I selected instead sda9)
* sda10 root
* sda11 swap
* sda12 home

When I select LinuxMint 12 from the boot menu I get:

* a black screen displaying the following line
* Starting cmain ... (hd0,8)[Multibook-kludge, loadaddr=0x100000,text-and-date=0x639d, bss=0x0, entry=0x100950]
* a locked-up system and the only way out is the hard-reset button.

hd0 is correct, because it's the first hard drive, but the PBC is on 9, not 8 -- and I don't see any way of selecting this. Unless I'm misinterpreting it ...

The entry was made with the GRUB2 option selected.
? What should I do to get a menu selection that will start LinuxMint??

Hi!
I have succeeded in adding LinuxMint 12 as an entry, in my Windows 7 multi-boot menu.

I have the installation in an Extended Partition named sda3. The logical partitions inside this, relevant to the LinuxMint installation are:

sda9 boot (containing grub and the PBC -- I didn't overwrite the Windows 7 whole-drive boot sector, during Mint's installation -- I selected instead sda9)

sda10 root

sda11 swap

sda12 home

When I select LinuxMint 12 from the boot menu I get:

a black screen displaying the following line

Starting cmain ... (hd0,8)
[Multibook-kludge, loadaddr=0x100000,text-and-date=0x639d, bss=0x0, entry=0x100950]

a locked-up system and the only way out is the hard-reset button.

hd0 is correct, because it's the first hard drive, but the PBC is on 9, not 8 -- and I don't see any way of selecting this. Unless I'm misinterpreting it ...

The entry was made with the GRUB2 option selected.
? What should I do to get a menu selection that will start LinuxMint??

Hello Folks, I have a triple boot system already setup and working [thanks].
I have XP Pro, Win 7x86, and Win7x64 each in in their own partition.

I wish to Remove the Win 7x32 OS. Which means that I shall be left with XP and Win7x64.

Do I simply Remove the entry for Win 7x32 using EasyBCD?

Am I then safe to re-format the Win 7x32 partition?
Thanks,

Hello all!

I have a T400 running XP. I need to install Ubuntu 12.04 then install Clonezilla for an imaging project. I have found that Lenovo has a unique (read pain in the arse) partition setup. I used Gparted to shrink XP to create some free space, after reboot check disk ran and xp booted. I loaded the Ununtu disk and rebooted, I set up one primary partition for /BOOT then two logical partitions, one for /ROOT and the other for SWAP. I then installed Ubuntu. I rebooted, XP started and I then installed EasyBCD 2.1.2, on first run I got this error message.

EASYBCD 2.1.2 Error loading operation system on select HP laptops

Hello,

my name is Adam and i started using this product a few months back to help boot into several .ISOs and a WIM image to replace carrying around a case of CDs. I have a portable external HDD that i am booting into. This thing works flawlessly on tons of other machines booting into a boot menu to select for computers such as DELLS and other laptops. The model i am having trouble with is HPs. I can boot into all of the older models but when we get into the Elite books, thats where i get the error message. a particular model im dealing with is HP Compaq 8510P now. Went into bios and did a full sweep there. turning stuff on/off and still nothing. plugged it into a Dell just to make sure HD still works and there it is. works.

I even went as far as updating the bios and still nothing.

what i would like help with is is there an option inside easy bcd that im not seeing? Dell boots fine, HP is the tricky ones.

I have the external HD split into two partitions. one partation is the BCD one with the .isos and ANGs etc. other is for software and profiles. minor stuff. the BCD partition is set to primary and active also. The operation systems that i am trying to boot in varies with Windows Vista and Windows 7. no linux or MAC or anything else besides windows.

Thanks for helping or giving suggestions to anyone who does.

my name is Adam and i started using this product a few months back to help boot into several .ISOs and a WIM image to replace carrying around a case of CDs. Went into bios and did a full sweep there. turning stuff on/off and still nothing. plugged it into a Dell just to make sure HD still works and there it is. works.

So to start I accidnetally deleted wow6432node from my local user registry. I found your lovely Windows 7 Recovery Disc iso and burned it to a disc. I booted it fine from the disc and clocked on automated repair. The only 2 choices I have to repair do not work. All I can coose from is either Boot Volume or Data Volume. And I dont know what to do!

I run win7 64 bit.

Both installations work fine, the only thing that needs repaired is the startup/boot.

Can the vista recovery disk repair this?

Problems with EasyRE

I purchased the EasyRE Recovery Disks because my Windows 7 Installation is not booting. When I try to go to the native Windows 7 Repair Utility, it does not load. I purchased a Dell, so I do not have a Windows 7 installation disk.

When I load EasyRE and try the automated fix feature, it recognizes two partitions (a 15 GB boot partition and a 451 GB data partition). When I try to select automated repair on either of these partitions, I get a message saying the partition does not contain a valid Windows installation. When I try the system restore button on either partition, it says the selected partition cannot be restored with this repair CD, I need the WinRE for Unknown Windows instead.

Based on reading these forums, I think I have to repair the Windows Bootloader. I read this article, and tried step 2. http://neosmart.net/wiki/display/EBCD/Recovering+the+Windows+Bootloader+from+the+DVD

Unfortunately, I'm having trouble working with the command prompt. When I click on "Launch Command Line", the default prompt says "root@winre:/var/triplehelix#". I then tried typing the "bootrec.exe /fixmbr" command as mentioned in the article. I get the following error: "/bin/sh: bootrec.exe: not found". I'm assuming I have to change directory to find bootrec.exe, but have no idea how to do so. Can someone provide more detailed instructions?

Thanks,
Tarak

Hi guys

hope you are all good. i need some urgent help i have always like a dual operating system because some programs i use arnt very responsive with 7 but work great on xp.

now i have created a partition on my hard drive which is now labelled as C: and E: one is 400 gb and the other is 50gb.

I have installed windows 7 on C: which is up and running working great and installed xp on E: which is 50gb.

Now someone suggested i use Easy BCD as windows used xp as a default operating system when i wanted 7 as my default.

I ran easy BCD in windows set it up for 7 as default and selected user selection in properties on restart windows selection screen came up with windows 7 in it as i hadnt installed xp at that time so i thought great its all working.

I then installed xp to find that now it boots up as xp as default.

I have also installed easy BCD on windows xp and tried having xp and 7 in the list, selected xp as E: and 7 as C: and it sets xp default to C:

when i restart it dont give me a selection for 7 or xp just uses xp as a default

hope it makes sense as i typed this quickly

thanks in advance Image: http://img9.warez-bb.org//images/smiles/icon_smile.gif

iReboot 1.1.1.15 reads the BCD information only at startup.

iReboot 1.1.1.15 reads the BCD information only at startup. If the BCD information is changed by EasyBCD or any other method then iReboot does not display/use the current BCD information.

A partial fix would be to add a step to the end of EasyBCD Save Settings processing that checks if an iReboot.exe task is running and if found it stops and restarts iReboot.exe. A better solution would be to change iReboot to read the BCD information for every right click that it processes.

(i can boot into windows 7 :-))

i installed windows 7 first.
then installed ubuntu(12.04).
after ubuntu installed successfully, i got the grub2 boot menu and i could boot into ubuntu or windwos 7.
i wanted to replace the boot menu to the one windows using(didn't love the grub 2 look :-)), so i follow this tutorial (http://neosmart.net/wiki/display/EBCD/Ubuntu).
the problem is that after i write the "Windows Vista/7 Bootloader to the MBR" and rebooted, when i chose ubuntu in the boot menu, it get me to grub4dos command line, and not to the grub2 boot menu, where i can boot into ubuntu.
how can i fix it, and get into the grub2 menu, to boot into ubuntu and contunue the tutorial?

i'm using easy bcd 2.1.2

thanks!

Good afternoon everyone,

A short time ago, a Sirefef Trojan was detected during an SAS quick scan on my computer. Somehow, the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM 32\DRIVERS\ipsec.sys file was deleted (either by the trojan itself or during the removal from quarantine process I did with SAS). I subsequently had no Internet access and spent $123 to get my computer back up and running.

_*My question*_: Is there a way to *COPY* the *ipsec.sys *file to a USB flash drive and *re-install *the file if a similar adverse event should occur in the future? (I do *not *have a 2nd computer to use either).

Thank you for your time and any information!

The system booted right up as usual and I've worked without an incident (SSD Win7). Yesterday I tried to boot XP to use a program that doesn't work in W7. I got my first bsod of the new build. I rechecked my EasyBCD settings and tried again. Now I get the corrupted NTLDR message when trying to boot XP. If I try to boot to the backup W7 (on the HD) I get a bsod after the logo starts loading. I went thru all the motions again in EasyBCD for setting up a multi boot system, but the results are still no good. Any ideas? Thanks.

Booting PC-BSD entry->PXE resulted in serious trouble...

Ok, I mentioned in another thread that I had PC-BSD installed on an external USB hard drive, and was wanting to boot it with the W7 boot manager, by adding an entry for it in EasyBCD, but Windows wasn't reading the disk correctly. Well, long story short, I got Windows to read the disk correctly (by using Testdisk to create a GPT style partition table) now, and so I was able to add a PC-BSD entry to the W7 boot menu with EasyBCD, pointing it at the 3rd partition (approx. 20 GBs in size) on the disk, which I know contains PC-BSD, though there seems to be an issue with EasyBCD not detecting the filesystem right. But anyway, I went ahead and rebooted (with the USB HD still connected, and mounted), then selected the PC-BSD entry in the boot menu, and pressed Enter. But now, it gave me like 3 options. One of them was Boot, which I clicked right away, which just brought me back to W7's boot menu, I don't remember what the first one was, but I next clicked the second option called "PXE". BIG MISTAKE!! That brought me to a screen saying no boot device, and to insert boot disk and press enter. Since I didn't want to do that, I pressed Ctrl + Alt + Delete to restart, thinking that would bring me back to W7's boot menu...but nope, I was wrong. It doesn't. Each time I restart, and each time I turn off and turn back on my computer, it comes back to that same PXE screen, asking me for a boot disk, and there's no way to get past it except by inserting a boot disk, so I inserted my BootIt NG disk, entered Partition Work, and now all of my partitions are missing on my main drive!! I only see free space on my hard drive. But I'm thinking (and hoping, of course...) that its probably just not loading the hard drive because its getting interrupted by that PXE screen. But just in case the PXE thing screwed up my disk's MBR or something, I went ahead and inserted the W7 installation disk, booted from it, and tried Startup Repair. It doesn't even see my OS. It says "Unknown OS on Unknown", but I went ahead and ran it anyway (once), and so it completed doing its thing, and asked me to restart. But when I did that, once more loaded into Windows Recovery Environment (this time doing "bootrec /fixmbr" from Command Prompt) and tried booting from the hard disk, I still get the PXE screen, so obviously it didn't fix anything.
So..I decided, it might be a good idea to find out what PXE is, so I googled it, and learned it is a Preboot Execution Environment which is an environment to "boot (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Booting) computers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer) using a network interface (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Network_interface_card) independently of data storage devices (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Data_storage_device) (like hard disks (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hard_disk)) or installed operating systems (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operating_system)".
So now that I know what it is, I'm wondering how to disable it, and get back to my normal boot from my hard disk, now that I accidentally started it up from PC-BSD's boot manager...

Any ideas??

Thanks in advance.
