Hello,

For the past week or two my computer, freshly installed, has been working perfectly, without any flaws. Then, starting last night at 9:30 PM, it started to apply an Office Update and then, crashed with no blue screen, I thought that this was normal until, I logged on and it rebooted again and again. I then turned automatic reboot off and got the blue screen, of course, that says the following...

I am certain that I do not have a virus because the computer only has programs from the store and has no internet access, I am still working on finding the correct driver, for the card that I have not put in.

Please help in a fair amount of time.

Update: I would like to add that it is perfectly stable in Safe Mode, I can not run the programs that I need for school though.
Update: I am going to try and completely remove McAfee, since nobody seems to care about this problem
Update: McAfee was not the problem, I am going to try to cancel all of the queued updates

I have two HDDs, one (0) has XP on a single partition and I have just installed Win 7 on a partition on second (1) HHD.

Both are working fine but I have to reboot and repair each time I want to change OS and I have been going around the houses trying to sort this out.

I upgraded EasyBCD from 1.7 to2 after reading the forum and this makes it easier to reset the boot options but once I leave xp I have to repair.

After I installed Win 7 disk management shows the 2nd partition on HDD2 as C drive (while was E) while the old C drive is changed to 'D' drive. If I do this in XP C drive remains as C.
HDD 1 (or 0 in reality) is the system drive.

There is obviously something simple not happening although it maybe the user that is simple.

any help to get these two working together would be much appreciated

Tricky scenario - booting into Windows 7 VHD from XP

Hey all, great software and great forum here. I have a tricky scenario that I wanted to get somebody's views on...

I want to install Windows 7 booting from a VHD on a machine that has Windows XP SP3 on it. I don't want to touch this install in any way, not even to install Easy BCD. There's a way to install Linux like this, by booting a Linux Live USB stick, and I read about booting Windows 7 from a VHD today, and now I've got it in my head that I should do that. :??

I don't want to modify the boot file of the XP install, and I don't care about having it be completely user-friendly. For example, when I boot my Linux USB stick, I have to insert the USB stick, power on the laptop, and then press F12, and select USB Media when the boot menu comes up. Is there a similar way to boot Windows so that the existing install isn't touched at all?

EDIT: Also, I understand that it doesn't work when the VHD file is on USB storage. I'm going to put the VHD on the existing hard drive.

NOTE: forum description read "This is for all versions of Windows that aren't Vista/Longhorn." as I want to ask about xp and win7, I thought it qualifies for this forum. If not, pl. direct me to correct place.

I have two hdds. In one disk (main boot disk), partition C, I have windows 7 that was working well. As I found difficulties in tuning to it, I decided to also install xp for quick work as I am quite familiar to it> I got xp installed into E drive of same HDD having windows7 at C drive. D drive is for first partition of the other HDD (2) that also has xp but that is not the main boot disk so not relevant to my question.

Now I have windows7 in C and XP2009 in E, but only Xp boots and I am not able to boot into windows7 even after putting proper entries into boot.ini file.

[boot loader]
timeout=10
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate 250 GB" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional 250 GB" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional 40 GB" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

I read at net that windows7 dosn't use boot.ini at all and some bootmgr or ntloader or something needs to be tweaked in. How to do that. I have downloaded and installed Easy BSD latest beta. As I can't boot into win7 and can boot into only xp, can I do the tweaking required for win7 from xp os? how?

Thanks.

Addendum:

Add:
I don't use any third party tool for booting. ONly using OS defaults. It is presenting the above three options at the time of booting. If I select XP boot (second option), it boots fine. If I select win7 boot (first option), it proceeds to a blank screen and then hangs.

Thanks.

Hello Everyone,

I have installed Windows 7 before 15 days and it's just amazing. Here I am sharing some experience of Windows 7.

Strengths:
So far it seems to be doing the business with the same speed as XP. Intuitive interface and navigation, uncluttered and easy to follow instructions and very nice to look at too!

Weaknesses:
Not found any yet.

Overall Evaluation:
So far so good, maybe the next worthy evolution of XP?

Backing up dual boot Win7 / XP Pro SP3 System

Hi, I just found out that my old reliable, Novastor Novabackup, now in version 11, with Windows 7 support, will not back up the system state in a dual boot environment. This is not supposition, Novastor's official position is that it does not support dual boot.

So, now I'm left looking around for a way to back up and restore my system. If anyone knows of a utility or backup program that can handle this I'd appreciate the reccomendation.

I'm also wondering if Nide N' Seek might do the trick? Somehow I doubt that just hiding the partitions from each other is going to be enough to let me do a reliable full system backup.

I have imaged the entire system, though I have no way to know if even that is reliable now, but that is not a good day to day solution. That is to say, I do a nightly differential backup, once a month I do all the various updates, drivers, Window Update, etc, and after I'm satisfied that it's stable I do an incremental backup for that month. I then erase all of the differnetials except the last pre-updates one, and start the month over. ( Lucky for me I have LOTS of external space. :} )

Any day I so much as install something that gives me the least bit of trouble I just restore yesterday's system state, and poof problem goes bye bye.

So, I kinda feel like I'm flying without a chute at the moment, and any ideas / help / recommendations would be appreciated.
