Hi,

Firstly I have been having trouble trying to install Vista Service Pack 2, which has got me to the point of not being able to boot into Windows at all.

I saw in another post that I should download the Paragon Rescue Kit, which I did. I then moved the Components, Default, Sam, Security, Software, System files from \Windows\System32\config\RegBack into \Windows\System32\config\. This worked brilliantly and I booted with no problems.

However, since then when I shut down and restarted the laptop went into a "configuring updates screen showing stage 3 of 3 0% where it sits for a few minutes, restarts itself and the cycle continues with no progress from the 0%.

I have tried F8 to do a startup repair, to which it says there is no error, safe mode just incurs the same issue as above and windows restore shows no restore points before I tried to install SP2.

If I try and use the CD again, replacing files etc I can get back into Vista, but I get the same issue whenever it shuts down/restarts.....

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

So I get this error when I start up my friends PC (Running Vista Sp1) that I'm trying to fix.

I've tried everything, the "Startup repair" and various commands through the Command prompt. He told me that the possible cause of this issue was that he installed a "Windows 7 loader" somehow to preactivate his PC with W7 (even though it isn't possible and sounds ridiculous).

If you guys could enlighten me a little, I'd appreciate it so much.

Windows Vista 64 bit Acer Aspire X3200

First let me say I am dummy level at fixing anything on the PC so need dummy replies with lots of details. Daughter's PC stopped working. Backup disk did not restore. They had made them on 19 CDs. I had no part in that but I think it was a complete backup of all her files. The Geeks at Best Buy said it was probably a hard drive failure. I don't have much confidence in what they say since they messed up one of my machines pretty bad. I decided to do some research and found that the error message could be caused from a number of things. The error message is:
AMD data change
update new data to DMI
Boot MGR is missing
Press Ctrl/alt/ del to restart.

I am able to get into the bios settings (del) but not the boot options.(F12) I have set the first boot to removeable and also to the CD/DVD. Neither option works.

I have downloaded your 64 bit recovery disk and I think I made a disk correctly using your instructions. I used a DVD rather than a CD. Not sure that was the right thing to do. I got no response from using the disk. Still the same error message. How do I tell if I am saving the downloaded file correctly so that it records a workablerecovery disk rather than just saving the downloaded onto a a disk?

I would like to try changing the hard drive just in cas,e but I cannot see a way to remove it without taking the entire PC apart. I have seen several post here that seem to have a this type of PC and wonder if someone could tell me if the hard drive can be removed without taking out the fan, CD/DVD player etc. As far as I can tell it is located under the DVD player and it looks like the DVD player has to come out to get to it. I have never removed a part from this small type cabinet so possibly I am missing something . Any help or idea from anyone one will be greatly appreciated.
I forgot to mention there are no OS disk so if I change the hard drive how would I get Vista installed on the new one with no disk?

I need a little bit of help with this one. My sister gave me my Neices laptop to try and fix. Apparently they had been looking on the net, done a windows update and closed down the machine. Now the machine will not boot up and gives a black screen. Tried F8 to get me into safe mode or resore to last correct booting etc., it starts and runs the files then stops with a please wait message and does nothing more. I downloaded the recovery cd and this lets me run it to the point where it starts looking to repair files where there bar moves long searching. It gives me the message that this can take over an hour, but its still going!!

Is it now something other than a boot failure and this cd cannot help me? or am i doing something wrong. ARGH!!

Hi,

My sister's PC with Vista won't start, and using System Restore to go to an earlier configuration didn't help. Also, she wasn't able to get into safe mode. I prepared a Vista Boot disk following all the instructions on your site, and tested it on a functioning PC with Vista that we have here.

Now I'm on the way to my sister's home and no longer have access to the PC with Vista so I'm hoping for an answer here. I want to save her picture directory to a flash drive or DVDs before trying Startup Repair or reinstalling Windows. Do you know if I will be able to get to the command prompt with the boot disk and transfer files with the copy command?

TIA,

Hi. First time here. Read the many posts of others who are having probs with Vista. I have an HP Pavilion with windows Vista home premium. Screen is saying: windows failed to start. A recent harware or software change....etc. From what I've read here, I need to burn a cd to restore my windows back to the time previous to the error. Only have one computer in the house, so will have to ask the neighbors for help on this. How do I know if I should burn the 32 or 64b? If I do go ahead and do this, do you think I will really be able to do it? I am very computer illiterate. I don't want to messthings up more than they already are!! I'm nervous.

The problem originated from my own ignorance. I went to install a new graphics card on my desktop. (I am running with vista x64) At first glance not seeing an old graphics card in there I installed my graphics card and attempted to boot up my computer. The problem is there is an integrated graphics card on my motherboard and without me disabling that first I created driver conflicts and hence the blue screen.
I have done what seems like everything, I have try to reboot in safe mode, in safe mode with command prompt. I have tried to boot with my vista recovery cd and then I have also tried to download the recovery disk from the NeoSmart site using ImgBurn and torrents, still nothing. What happenes when I boot with either of these cd's is my computer does at least recognize it and begins to boot from them, it does not however bring me to a language screen or anything of that sort, what I do get is a "Loading Files" prompt which shows that it is loading, once it "loads" and completes itself it kicks back up to the boot screen and then kicks back out once again to the blue screen.
Please help!

Hello! There is a major problem with my laptop, any help will be great.

Earlier today, the laptop was working fine, logging into windows and running programs, however it was quite slow. I just finished exams and i wanted to have a fresh clean install of vista on the laptop. That's when the trouble started.

The laptop only came with a 'Recovery CD/DVD'. I put the DVD in, restart computer while also having BIOS set to read CD/DVD before HDD. The black screen with 'Windows is loading files' came up and quickly loaded, bringing me to the windows loading/splash screen (http://www.kavikmedia.com/images/Vista_background.jpg).

However, it just stayed like that. Now no matter what i do, Safe Mode, EMS, Last working settings, it all just brings me back to the splash screen background(no windows vista logo or anything). During this splash screen background i am able to move my mouse, even though there are no options to click.

I tried using the Vista recovery iso that has graciously been supplied by NeoSmart. This brings up the black screen with 'click any key to continue', but just leads me back to the empty splash screen background.

I've been trying to work out the problem myself for awhile now, but the closest ive come is; During start up, i press f9. I click 'Windows memory diagnostic'. And here are the results:

"Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:
1. Insert your windows installation disc and restart comp. ( i only have recovery DVD)
2. Choose your language settings, then click next. (i assume this option is what is supposed to come up during my splash screen background times)
3. click 'repair your computer.'

If you do not have this disc, contact admin/computer manufacturer
File: \boot\memtest.exe

Status: 0xc000000f

Info: The selected entry could not be loaded; missing or corrupt.

Any help is appreciated!

My problem is with my daughter's Toshiba. It is 3 months old & under warranty. In fact they're having me send it in to get checked out, but we're thinking it is a hard drive error & they're probably going to replace it. She's got some college papers in progress that we're hoping to save if at all possible, but the laptop is not booting. I'm not 100% sure of every thing that has happened or in what order, but here's what I know.

On Tuesday night she ran her virus scan & all was great. On Wednesday evening she got online long enough to check campus email on their website, to log into her computer class website, and to check her facebook account. Also she signed out long enough for her suitemate to check her facebook as well. No one went to any other websites, downloaded anything, etc. The computer shut down normally & was left on her desk.

She woke up Thursday & pushed the power button, then left it to boot up while getting dressed. She saw a black screen with 1 row of numbers, then something about missing files, then a black screen that only had a - in the top left screen. She couldn't load into safe mode. She saw a message referring to an i/o error that referenced problems with removable storage, hard drive or cd drive. At one point she got some beeps & nothing happened. The Toshiba guy had her try to load the recovery disk with no luck.

She brought it home tonight & I saw the I/O message again. I tried changing boot order & using the recovery disk--choosing the 2nd choice which said 'options' & it said it would try to repair the hard drive. Then it said it was going to restart the system. Then it went to a black screen. After a while I powered it off & restarted it trying safe mode again. I got to where it listed a bunch of files it was loading & it got stuck. At that point a google search took me to this site where it suggested Recovery Disc Download using utorrent & imgburn. I downloaded the 64 bit version. I'm 99% sure that is what her system uses.

I put the disc in her laptop & used the f12 to force a boot from cd. I got the push a button to continue screen, followed by it acting like it was loading windows. Then I got a 2 tone blue screen with the pretty starbursts. I'm assuming it's part of a windows load screen. I even had a cursor I could move around. It never did anything else.

I'm just wondering if there's something I'm doing wrong or something I'm missing? Like I said it's heading back to them next week when the box gets here to ship it in, but I'm still hoping to save her files. I would have pulled her drive into an enclosure & try to see if I could find the files, but my enclosure is for a different kind of drive & the connectors are different. Any thoughts?
