OK, that does seem most likely. The problem is minor, so I am happy to wait for the change to the debug options and will let you know how it performs then. Hope you are at last approaching the final hurdles.....

Removed the splashimage part of menu.lst as suggested. I'm fairly sure that the partition error message is still there, but now it appears and disappears so quickly that it is not readable - nor can I catch it with the pause key! I can't be certain, but I don't think the message even made a...

Build 56 was the last one that worked well without the partition error messages. In the early builds the error message was repeated many times to cover all the partitions which followed the new Vista rules. Now in Builds 58 and 60 there is just the single error message. Does this give you any...

OK, tried build 60 but I still get the unrecognised partition table error message. Not sure if I should have followed the instructions to prevent bootsect.exe from running. I omitted this believing it to be relevant to Terry's problems only - if this was the wrong choice, my apologies!

I also found that my menu.lst contained the line "find --set-root /vhns.xpm.gz0", so edited out the 0 hoping it might also get rid of the invalid partition table error message. Alas, no joy! Change made no obvious difference on my machine. The link to build 59 gave an error message, but I may...

Thanks for your advice. I gave build 58 a try and, it does now allow booting into Windows XP as you thought. Just one strange event - I now have a single 'Warning - unrecognised partition table etc etc' message before the pretty boot screen. Build 56 had successfully cleared all of these...

Thought I'd confirm that I also had problems with build 57. Pretty boot splash screen displayed well, but I could no longer boot into WindowsXP. Looked at menu.lst entries and all seemed as before. Have now reverted to build 56 and all is well again - think I will now wait until the problem...

Having the screen debug output seems very sensible - I managed to hold it long enough to read on booting into WindowsXP. No problems there! I guess everyone will be looking for the pretty boot screen now..... Hope all goes well for the final release.

I have at last taken the plunge and tried out build 45. Wonders! The procedure worked smoothly, and now I don't have the start up 'unrecognised partition table' warning messages, relating to the new Vista style partitions on the first drive, that were previously a minor irritation. I do now...

I experienced the same problem as Terry when SP1 installed - HnS became quite tangled with the errors on attempting to uninstall/reinstall, mainly being of the form of 'unable to write a file that already exists'. Found my way through the maze largely by trial and error (how Vista SP1 hates...

    Vista/XP Dual-Booting Solutions - HnS & More

Very interesting reading. For what it's worth, I offer my own experiences with Vista and XP installed on separate hard drives with the other physically disconnected during the installations. I used the BIOS to swap the order in which the SATA drives were 'seen' to boot either XP or Vista...

Guru, Happy to confirm that the latest build also worked on my system, creating a menu.lst identical to that from build 35. When GRUB stops issuing a list of 'Warning: Unrecognised partition table for drive 80' messages on boot the operation will be perfect! Even though these messages appear...

Sorry, Guru - I must have run the original Drive Grabber the first time. The second Drive Grabber gave the additional 'Type' information but still failed to give GRUB partition numbers to the extended partition logical drives on Disk2. Last offering, SUCCESS! All partitions given GRUB...

    Here is a copy of the Drive Grabber output as seen from the Vista boot drive (disk #0): <quote> \\.\PHYSICALDRIVE0 Disk #0, Partition #0 C: Disk #0, Partition #1 D: Disk #0, Partition #2 E: Disk #0. Partition #3 F: - GRUB partition #4 G: - GRUB partition #5 H: - GRUB partition #6...

Have been watching this thread with keen interest. Ran drive grabber from within Vista, and found that the logical drives on the extended partition on disk #2 (the WindowsXP drive) are shown with only the drive letter and no GRUB partition number whereas disk #0 follwed the example precisely...
