Toshiba Win 7 problems

I have a Toshiba L335D that came with Vista and a upgrade to Win 7 when available. I upgraded to Win 7 a couple of months ago, and I've noticed a lot of hard drive activity when nothing is running except win. The system seemed unstable and would lock up from time to time.

Now it has crashed, win will not load, an error screen comes up with a Page Fault in a Non Paged area.

I downloaded the recovery disk file, made a disk, and started up the laptop. Now the error message is win shutdown;

ntfs.sys
page fault in non paged area

I don't know where to go from here.
