Hi guru,

ok i try it a second (and last) time.

what my current situation is:

1.) i have 160GB Samsung empty disc on which i want to run XP and VISTA
2.) i create one active prim NTFS partition for XP C:\
3.) i recover an Acronis XP-Image to the first partition. the whole disc
4.) XP is booting
5.) i shrink the partition to the half, create a new partition active prim for VISTA E:\
6.) i recover a Acronis VISTA Image to the new partiton E:\
7.) VISTA is not booting i have to repair with the VISTA DVD
8.) VISTA is bootin but XP not
9.) this is the situation that i have from the beginning when i start to
work with easyBCD

I'm in a bootloader-cycle if i choose XP for booting. VISTA booting XP not.
how can i make VISTA and XP booting from the same disc? it is impossible!!

mike

OK, here's what I want you to try:
Boot into Vista.
Copy ntldr and boot.ini from the XP drive to the Vista drive.
Add an XP entry to EasyBCD.

Does that work?

If not, please post the full contents of boot.ini

how?
NO System is booting!!!

XP:
Datei: \ntldr
Status: 0xc000000e
VISTA:
Datei: \Windows\system32\winload.exe
Status: 0xc000000e

mike

hi,

i get VISTA to boot with the VISTA-DVD Repair-Function
and copied ntldr and boot.ini to the VISTA-Drive but XP
dont boot!

here is the boot.ini

[boot loader]
;timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\windows
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\windows="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn

mike

OK.
From Windows Vista, what's the name of the drive (and it's number) that has the BOOT folder? is it drive c:? is it the drive with Vista on it?

I have an idea that might *automatically* fix everything for you:

Delete all boot.ini files.
Delete all XP entries from EasyBCD.
Open EasyBCD -> Useful Tools -> EasyBCD Power Console:
Code:
bootcfg /rebuild
Once that's done, Add an XP entry to EasyBCD.

Where is the boot.ini file now? Same drive as Vista? Another drive?

...and i deleted all boot.ini files...
removed the XP Etnry form EasyBCD...

which command do you mean?

there are copy, delete, query, raw,
timeout, ems, debug, addsw, rmsw, dbg1394, default

what now????

mike

That's weird, on Vista the /rebuild option *isn't* there..

Damn it - to have that option available you need to boot from the XP CD, enter the recovery console when prompted, then use bootcfg /rebuild

At any rate, according to http://www.microsoft.com/resources/...proddocs/en-us/bootcons_bootcfg.mspx?mfr=true

The bootcfg command with the parameters listed below is only available when you are using the Recovery Console The bootcfg command with different parameters is available from the command prompt.

:unamused: @ MS.

hi

that is a big problem!!! because i try before to boot
from the XP CD and run the recovery Console but i dont
now the admin passwort...i dont use a password to login
on my XP System (leave blank in Tweak UI setting)
i try a few password but no one works for the recovery
console since i use XP from the beginning 5 years.
what is the admin password? how can i get these
bootcfg /rebuild command? and whats about my system now?

mike

although i dont know the admin password i start XP from
CD and get a bluescreen. what the hell is going on here
now with my XP-System??

i really starts to makes my angry again your easyBCD...

mike

If you don't have an admin password, don't put one in the recovery console. Just press enter.

If you forgot your admin password, well, EasyBCD isn't to blame. EasyBCD is simply an interface that hooks into Microsoft's existing infrastructure. It can't do everything for you, and I'm trying to guide you through the minutest details - but even I can't help you get your admin password.

Hi,

see below my last config. XP is not booting.
i recover the boot.ini files from the garbage...

what means "deleted partition"?
XP is on drive E:\ it is not deleted...IT IS HERE!!

what is going on here ??? this drives me totally
crazy not to know what is going on and what to do!!!

mike

There are a total of 2 entries listed in the Vista Bootloader.
Bootloader TimeOut: 30 seconds.
Default OS: XP SP2

Entry #1

Name: XP SP2
BCD ID: {default}
Drive: Deleted Partition\
Bootloader Path: \ntldr
Windows Directory: \Windows

Entry #2

Name: VISTA Ultimate
BCD ID: {current}
Drive: C:\
Bootloader Path: \Windows\system32\winload.exe
Windows Directory: \Windows

You can't use your existing boot.ini file. You need to set it up properly, using the bootcfg app.
"Deleted partition" means that the Vista bootloader is looking for a partition that's not there. Configure Boot -> Change Drive Letter should take care of that.

change driveletter to what?
XP is on E!!
i change to what driveletter...?
what is care about what?

i dont understand what you mean!!

mike

Did you get it more than once?
The Recovery Console has always BSOD'd once in a while - it's a known issue that's been fixed in Vista.
