Well this is my first post. I bought myself a new computer.

emachines
Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit Build 6000
AMD Sempron 3800+
1GB RAM
Nvidia GeForce 6100
160 GB HDD

I'm planning on muti-booting so I was thinking on buying Windows XP Pro, I also have Ubuntu 8.04 CD . Also in my possession is a emachines OS disc that came with the computer in case if I want to reinstall Vista, plus a recovery CD for drivers, software etc. Now here's what I want to know, If I format, install XP first will I'm able to install Vista next with the emachines disc, since it not a retail copy with no problems?

Hi c.collier, welcome to NeoSmart Technologies.

Question: Why do you need to format? If it's just to get XP installed, you're going about doing that the hard way.... there is no need to format your disk, install XP, then reinstall Vista to get a dual-boot going.

See our instructions at Windows XP - NeoSmart Technologies Wiki on how to dual-boot Windows XP and Windows Vista. Links at the top (and bottom) go to the step-by-step guides to installing XP on a machine with Windows Vista already installed.
