Repair XP and restore files

I have a question, I do not know if this is possible and I haven't really been able to find any results on the web to answer.

I had a corrupted XP installation. Tried to repair disk, boot, recover registry, no go. (The pc would not boot at all.) Tried to repair existing installation, no go. Before I did all this, I used a live CD to extract the user data from the HD. I copied the whole user folder. Now I have user folder with all the settings, favorites, desktop, etc. I had to format and reinstall OS, which is working fine. Now my question is - is there any way to "restore" the user folder so all its data is being pointed to without having to physically move/copy each individual folder(eg - favorites, desktop, etc) to the new user folder? I hope that makes sense. And thanks for any ideas.

There will be no way to do what you want. You will have to copy the contents of each folder or you risk corrupting you current profile can causing more system issues.
