Windows 8 Boot Menu - here's how to select text or ui

Hello SIW2,

I don't know about the new CP, but in the original DP it was a bit more complicated than that.

bootems can (was?) be no while still ending up with the text menu.. I'll be honest, I haven't done a lot of research on this though, and could probably be wrong here.

Have you tested this extensively? And thank you very much for taking the time to share that tidbit!

Yes.

Works every time on my system.

I expect this will be the most asked for feature.

It is a damn nuisance rebooting if you select an entry that is not win8.

It seems bootmgr loads part way into 8 so it can run the ui executable.

I don't know what the point of that is - perhaps just because the ui is pretty.

Mahmoud, thanks for responding to my comment earlier.

Are you going to integrate this into 2.2? Would be great for the end user.

Hi Knocks,

Did it work for you? I don't know if it's 2.2 or some other version, but there will be a release (DV) with Windows 8 support, including an option to toggle the visual and text menus.
I haven't yet researched it properly, but I need to find out why/when/how the bootems flag is apparently set when you don't actually touch it yourself. (EasyBCD doesn't currently set EMS flag except on WinPE entries)

I didn't try it actually, just wanted to figure out how to un-break it.

The new bootloader is pretty and all, but I prefer not booting all the way into Windows (which this loader does) when I all need to do is select another OS.
