Just when we decided we’re going to take a break<\/a> and re-organize, we get hit by our biggest traffic surge ever.<\/p>\n

In the past 48 hours, NeoSmart Technologies has been featured on the homepages of Digg (twice!), OSNews (twice!), and Slashdot (once) for three different articles we published. It seems even our amazing host with their equinix data centers couldn’t keep up with the demand, and unfortunately we experienced a 12 hours of downtime as a result (from 2200 to 1000 UTC).<\/p>\n

If anyone is interested, the featured articles were “Windows Vista 5456 Released<\/a>” on OSNews.com<\/a> and Digg.com<\/a>, “WinFS: What’s the Big Deal Anyway?<\/a>” on Digg.com<\/a> and OSNews.com<\/a>, and “What XSS isn’t<\/a>” on Slashdot.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n

As a result of the heavy traffic, our hosts required us to up our hosting level, forking an extra 40 USD a month. We are now in the process of this upgrade, so a bit more downtime is expected sometime in the next two hours or so, but for now we’re back up. Once we’ve shifted over to the new servers, server response time should be drastically better, and hopefully we can make it to the homepage every site that matters at once without going down again – we’re certainly paying for it.<\/p>\n

We’d like to remind our kind members and readers alike that NeoSmart Technologies is a non-profit organization, and that we’re running this out of our own (shallow) pockets.
