You must have heard of it by now, you know, that really \u2018cool\u2019 browser that sees itself taking over the world of internet surfing in 5 to 10 years. Yes, that\u2019s the one.<\/p>\n<p>If I were to ask \u2018<em>What\u2019s their logo<\/em>?,\u2019 of an average Firefox user, the answer you\u2019d expect (and can safely bet your money on) would be &#8220;<em>A red fox around a globe<\/em>&#8221; except, of course, for the fact that isn\u2019t. Well, yes, that <em>is <\/em>a globe, but that logo has <em>never actually featured a red fox!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>What you see above isn\u2019t a fox. Sure, it may look like one, but it isn\u2019t. As a matter of fact, it has nothing to do with a red fox or a brown fox, and if you had said \u2018red raccoon\u2019 or \u2018tiny and very-colorful panda\u2019 you would have been a lot closer to the truth.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/neosmart.net\/blog\/2006\/what-the-fire-fox-isnt\/red-panda-in-snow\/\" rel=\"follow\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-2720 colorbox-228\" alt=\"Red Panda in Snow\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Red-Panda-in-Snow-1024x694.jpg\" width=\"372\" height=\"252\" srcset=\"https:\/\/neosmart.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Red-Panda-in-Snow-1024x694.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/neosmart.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Red-Panda-in-Snow-442x300.jpg 442w, https:\/\/neosmart.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Red-Panda-in-Snow.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 372px) 100vw, 372px\" \/><\/a>Firefox\u2019s official name-and-logo sake is the \u2018Red Panda.\u2019 It looks like a raccoon, eats like a panda, it\u2019s related to neither, and is a dark shade of reddish-brown. The Americans call it &#8216;Red Panda,&#8217; the Germans \u2018Katzenb\u00e4r,\u2019 and the Chinese \u2018h\u01d4o h\u00fa (\u706b\u72d0),\u2019 which translates directly to \u2018Fire Fox.\u2019<\/p>\n<p><em>This<\/em> is the creature depicted in Firefox\u2019s logo. When Firefox 0.8 came along (bare months after the name change from Firebird to Firefox), Firefox had a new logo. Jon Hicks is the renowned author of the Firefox logo today, and his logo was designed to <em>look<\/em> like the literal name of the software (a fox on fire), yet not deviate too much from\u00a0the original Red Panda namesake.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-2721 colorbox-228\" alt=\"Red Panda\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Red-Panda-150x150.jpg\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Arguably, the animal on the globe <em>is<\/em> a fox, and as such the answer to the question posed earlier up really is a fox, but at this point, it\u2019s just semantics. In reality, the creature on the globe is a depiction of\u00a0a reddish-colored, long-bodied, tail-endowed, species; and just like the browser, it\u2019s on fire.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Firefox.
