GRLDR in Dual Boot of Windows

Hey, thanks all for the answers..... Terry, I AM interested in what is going on. There is no menu.lst file; I've set the Windows OS to show hidden, system, etc files. I do believe that this GRLDR is in fact chaining to NTLDR since NTLTR, NTDETECT.COM and boot.ini are there on the disk...

GRLDR in Dual Boot of Windows

I bought a used laptop at a garage sale recently that has two partitions on it. Each one has XP loaded on it, so it dual boots. (Why two bootable of the same OS version, I have no idea). Anyhow, just before it presents the normal Microsoft OS selection screen, a message flashes VERY briefly...

Dualboot Vista/XP on separate drives - Part 2

Thanks to both of you for your replies. It *appears* that the version of Ghost I used did NOT copy over NTLDR, NTDETECT.COM and boot.ini , even though I did a FULL drive-to-drive (not partition) copy. I'm shocked that Ghost would do this, even when imaging from a larger drive to a smaller one...

Dualboot Vista/XP on separate drives - Part 2

Or...... here we go again!!!! Actually, as reported in the original thread I got this working fine. However, I wanted to get the XP install migrated over onto a different drive. So, I thought Norton Ghost would be a good way.... I used ghost to do a drive-to-drive image copy. The dest drive is...

    Dualboot Vista/XP on separate drives

The final word..... Well, I put everything back like it was, with windows XP booting from the first partition on the first drive (as it's been for a couple of years). Put the second freshly formatted drive in the slave position, and installed Vista on it. Without even running BCDEasy...

    Dualboot Vista/XP on separate drives

I will check your suggestion..... Thanks for all your interest at this rather mystifying problem. OT: I notice from your sig that you are a pilot. My family is also "heavy" into aviation. I hold all US ratings except ATP (Airline transport pilot) and am coming up on the 50th aniversary...

    Dualboot Vista/XP on separate drives

Curioser and Curioser Terry: As an experiment, I put two 40 GB drives (freshly formatted with a single partition on each) in my PC, one primary, one slave IDE. Installed Vista on the first drive, no problem. Then shutdown system and booted from XP install CD ; specified the partition on the...

    Dualboot Vista/XP on separate drives

No SCSI here Pretty amazing...... That boot.ini was created as a reult of installing XP on an IDE drive thru an IDE controller. Why it would not have "multi" I have no idea. I'm going to put another blank drive in the slave position and install XP from scratch, assuming XP will let me...

    Dualboot Vista/XP on separate drives

G'Day Terry: Thanks for your interest. What is now my SECOND physical drive, was FORMERLY my first physical drive and XP booted perfectly from it. It had NTLDR and NTDETECT.COM PLUS the following boot.ini: [boot loader] timeout=30...

    Dualboot Vista/XP on separate drives

I have two drives, Vista on the primary, XP on the secondary. The secondary has two partitions so I basically have Drive C, D and E. On the first drive the partition is primary and active; it contains the Vista installation. On the second drive both partitions are primary; the first is...
