How to add XP to Windows 10 startup menu ?

On my system (legacy BIOS/MBR) my primary active partition contains Windows XP and the Windows 10 boot loader (since it's the only active partition) Windows 10 itself lives in a logical drive on the same HDD, as does another install of XP in another logical drive. I remember reading somewhere...

How to add XP to Windows 10 startup menu ?

Yes but EasyBCD messes with the ntldr and recreates the boot.ini, leaving off some of the switch options. It's a mess. This is the way to do it using BCDEDIT (see step2 in these instructions)...

How to add XP to Windows 10 startup menu ?

For one reason or another, I manually rebuilt the BCD using these commands from the WinRE command prompt: attrib c:\boot\bcd -h-s-r ren c:\boot\bcd bcd.old bootrec /rebuildbcd This procedure finds the Widnows 10 install and adds it to the new BCD. The PC now boots directly to Windows 10, where...

crashes in Windows XP after new CPU

Thanks for the update. If EasyBCD adds this workaround I will certainly implement it on my system. At the moment, since I have GRUB on a second drive, I'm using that to boot XP when I need to use it. This is not such a bad workaround, but it's a longer path - I have to press F11 to interrupt...

crashes in Windows XP after new CPU

You already new about the bug in BOOTMGR? Are you saying EasyBCD is considering a "workaround" to negate this bug?

crashes in Windows XP after new CPU

Could EasyBCD fix this problem as a kind of a workaround? Since it has its own version of NTLDR, just turn off the bits in the control register that are inadvertently on due to the bug in BOOTMGR ???

crashes in Windows XP after new CPU

If anybody is in the somewhat rare situation I'm in, (Dual boot Windows 10/Windows XP, and AMD FX or newer) perhaps this will help - turns out to be a bug in BOOTMGR. See this thread from the developer who debugged it: - I just found a bug in Win10 BOOTMGR when chaining to NTLDR •...

Can EasyBCD boot to a saved boot sector?

Hello - if I have a copy of a boot sector saved in a file, can EasyBCD boot to it.? You used to be able to something like this in the XP boot.ini like this: [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(3)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional F" /FASTDETECT...

crashes in Windows XP after new CPU

Yes it clears things up regarding my understanding of the boot options and the chain-loaded boot overiding anything in the BCD. However, regarding my actual problem of XP not working properly when the Win 10 boot loader is used - in you first post above, you mentioned PAE and NX. Based on what...

crashes in Windows XP after new CPU

Thanks very much for responding. How is this done? Something in the BCD ? Can these switches be disabled in EasyBCD ? For now, I've been using XP alone. On the rare occassions I need Widnows 10, I boot the WinRE from USB and do the Startup Repair. Wfen I'm done I reverse it and use Fixboot in...

crashes in Windows XP after new CPU

Hi all, I'm new to EasyBCD, great program, although for now I'm not using it. This is because of a strange thing I'm experiencing at the moment, I'm not using Windows 10 (or its loader) at all, I use my two XP systems more often anyway, so it's OK for now. I had been seeing quite a few crashes...
