Problem after moving Win7 boot files

Update: Have confirmed that this is NOT a problem with EasyBCD. I had the Macrium Reflect Boot option installed in the BCD. Today, I was on the MR forums and noticed another poster with the same problem. It appears now that the presence of the MR boot option is the problem. Once Startup...

Problem after moving Win7 boot files

Don't know that this is a "bug" -- since it works now -- but thought it worthwhile letting you know about it ... Installed Win7 Pro in unallocated space on a drive. Win7 allocated the 100MB boot partition as well. Few days later, used EasyBCD (build 133) to move the bootloader files to the...

    EasyBCD can find BCD

Actually, I think it's a problem using Win7 64-bit. I tried exactly the same setup but this time, using Win7 32-bit -- and it worked. Found the BCD -- no problems. Even had it move the boot loader files into the Win7 OS partition, and that worked without problems.

    EasyBCD can find BCD

I recently built a new system when my old one crashed. I migrated a previous install and let Win7 update the drivers and other stuff. The old system had Win7 32-bit & Vista 32-bit, and BCD was in the Vista partition. Am now finishing building a Win7 64-bit system to replace that one, so I...

OMG!! This Software seems so broken!! Someone please help.

Two things to consider ... First, in my experience, GRUB automatically installs to the "first" drive it finds. So, even though you were booting from the USB, if GRUB thought your internal drive was "first", it installed itself there. Your last statement that booting from the hard drive...

Time to update your Ubuntu install demo guide

If you try to install Ubuntu while Windows is running, the only option you will be presented is Wubi -- which I don't recommend. That installs GRUB4DOS and adds an entry to the BCD so that when you boot again, you will be presented with an additional selection in the MS OS selection menu. That...

    Restore WinXP boot

Sorry ... guess I didn't explain myself well enough ... I don't want to boot Win7; I simply want to remove the Win7 drive, restore the original XP boot setup, and reboot into XP by itself. I thought just copying back the original XP boot & loader files would do it -- but it didn't.

    Restore WinXP boot

I have the following situation: Took an existing WinXP machine, did an image backup with Acronis True Image Then, installed Win7 Home Premium -- onto a second hard drive Am able to boot into either XP or Win7 just fine. However ... since I'm just really testing how well this machine will run...

Unable to boot Ubuntu using EasyBCD with Win 7

Golly do I feel stupid!! The reason is was not working is because some idiot (me) forgot to reset the GRUB menu to its earlier state. I had to change the menu a while back to force the loading of Windows 7 by default and suppress the GRUB menu -- because the other person using it wanted it...

Unable to boot Ubuntu using EasyBCD with Win 7

\ Since I'm running Hardy (8.04), it uses legacy GRUB, so I selected GRUB (legacy). I've actually tried two different approaches: 1) Using legacy GRUB installed to the Ubuntu partion, adding a Linux entry in EasyBCD (Beta 2 build 76). Just get a brief flash and return to the boot selection...

Unable to boot Ubuntu using EasyBCD with Win 7

OK ... I'm back! My tablet PC crashed over the weekend and was unbootable. Good news is that, due to the tutorials here and EasyBCD, I was able to get it booting again. But, had to rewrite the MBR in the process. Given the HOURS it took to get the machine working again, I'm now nervous about...

Many thanks for the great information!

Wanted to extend my many thanks to you for providing such great products and tutorials. I had my dual-boot Seven/Vista machine crash over the weekend, and despite running Startup Repair from both a Vista DVD and a Seven DVD, nothing worked! Then, I came here and found your tutorial on manually...

Unable to boot Ubuntu using EasyBCD with Win 7

Well, THAT could have gone a lot better!! Made the changes indicated -- to the stanza in the menu.lst file. Rebooted. Selected that entry from the GRUB menu. Failed on GRUB error 15! But, I figured, maybe NeoGRUB would work anyway. Rebooted. Selected Hardy Heron entry from the Windows &...

Unable to boot Ubuntu using EasyBCD with Win 7

Tried that first and was told to use the 1.7.2 build instead. Sorry ... can't do that. Newer versions don't detect the hardware properly, so I'm stuck with 8.04 on this box. Addendum: OK, will try that.
