Dual boot - Windows XP won't boot

EasyBCD has changed the way it handles the boot files, so I am not completely sure that the boot.ini you are looking at is correct, but should rdisk be 0 and not 1 if XP is on the same drive as it is? I suppose, using C: for the ntldr path might also be incorrect...but having two active...

    Confusion over HarddiskVolume

The question was not really an EasyBCD question, just mine. It was one of those areas I wasn't familiar with, but now I think I am. I am sure EasyBCD uses software to determine where the System partitions are, be they MBR or EFI versions. Glad to see you have decided to get into the UEFI...

    Confusion over HarddiskVolume

I think I am starting to figure it out. The Diskpart List Partition for each drive is the best way, the List volume just seems to show drive letters. I also now understand, because of the hidden reserve partition on GPT drives, it might be impossible to tell from just looking at the Disk...

    Confusion over HarddiskVolume

I have been trying to understand the HarddiskVolume number. I would like to be able to look at a Disk Management window and know for sure which partitions go with volume numbers. My confusion comes from using Diskpart to list the volumes and comparing that to Disk Management in UEFI and MBR...

Windows 8 Consumer Preview Dual Boot with 7

Well, first test. Win 8 and Win 7 on separate drives and originally installed as independent UEFI installs. Was booted into Windows 8 and started EasyBCD.. The Overview screen could see no boot entries. The Detailed view showed the entries as they were. Edit Boot Menu - No entries detected...

Windows 8 Consumer Preview Dual Boot with 7

I only ran the Developer's Preview for one day and dumped it. So I can't be much help as to the differences. I do remember I asked you almost a year ago if EasyBCD was going to be getting into the UEFI realm and you said, at that time, no. But, just as before, if you need any research done...

Windows 8 Consumer Preview Dual Boot with 7

Yes, that is the posting I was referring to originally. Since is seems to be now incorrect, I wanted to start some updated info in case you could get some insight into the process. I like my system using the old boot menu since the system does not have to reboot depending on which OS I choose...

Windows 8 Consumer Preview Dual Boot with 7

Thanks for the response, but I have been running a UEFI Windows 7 system for almost a year....so it is booting into another UEFI install with Windows 7. I would have to think the Win8 boot is taking the system almost all the way into Win 8, so when it goes to another system, it has to unload...

Windows 8 Consumer Preview Dual Boot with 7

I saw the comments made in December about the Windows 8 boot loader, and wanted to share some observations from the new release. The Boot loader does not reboot when Win 8 is selected, but does when Win 7 is selected. Changing the options for Win 7 to be the default OS, causes the Win 7 boot...

UEFI Windows 7 Boot support coming?

I have not seen anything in the news or forum posts concerning the UEFI boot system gaining in usage. Will there be an EasyBCD release for dual booting using this system? Along those lines, is anyone aware of which Windows 7 utilities will work with an EFI system. I have seen BCDEDIT, BCDBOOT...

    Windows 7 boot.ini

When you installed XP, you changed the MBR to look for the XP boot files. Hopefully someone here will correct me if I am wrong, and it always helps to see an attached disk management window, but you might try putting in the Win 7 Install DVD and using the letter of your DVD instead of D...

vista win7 falure boot.ini wont boot vista from os menu

I have not seen the .000 notation on a windows.old folder, but that is an archive, not meant to be used as an OS.

Windows 7 & Ubuntu dual boot failure

Jellin, I just installed and set up Ubuntu on a Win 7 drive again. I will post my steps, which as far as I can tell are the same as the tutorial. Boot to Install CD Pick install Specify Partitions manually Free space-add primary added 46 G primary partition EXT4 (this...

Windows 7 & Ubuntu dual boot failure

When on the same drive, I had no problem following the tutorial. Picked Grub (Legacy) then the partition and it booted fine. You are not pointing the loader to the swap file, are you? Remove the entry and try it again. In the tutorial it talks about putting Grub on the Linux partition...

Windows 7 & Ubuntu dual boot failure

If I am reading it correctly, Linux has used partition 0 for the first partition in something like (hd0,0), but may have changed. I might be confusing the 0 in (hd0,0) and sda0. You probably already know this but I am just seeing it, so it seems new to me. I got the following from this site...
