BIOS / UEFI Boot Option present in BCD?

@mqudsi: thanks, and yeah I've seen those backups. But I'm still trying to understand how changes I made in EasyBCD wiped boot DEVICE options from the EFI BIOS? These are my first attempts at working on a system with EFI, so apologies if some of this is known territory, but new for me. This is...

BIOS / UEFI Boot Option present in BCD?

But then, here is the Overview output: There are a total of 19 entries listed in the bootloader. Default: Windows 10 Home Timeout: 3 seconds EasyBCD Boot Device: C:\ Entry #1 Name: Setup BCD ID: {31f5933e-c936-11e6-a0a7-806e6f6e6963} Device: Unknown Bootloader Path: Entry #2 Name: Boot Menu...

BIOS / UEFI Boot Option present in BCD?

Setting BIOS defaults returned things to mostly normal - in that I got my BIOS boot menu to select alternate devices back. However, they're also all back in the boot menu. Detailed/Debug Mode output: Windows Boot Manager -------------------- identifier...

BIOS / UEFI Boot Option present in BCD?

Well, you are right about THAT! After going back into EasyBCD after seeing the boot menu - I did indeed remove the extra 16 entries. And as you rightly cautioned against, this has now resulted in my F12 boot menu from the BIOS now missing any options for alternate device. Only 'Windows Boot...

BIOS / UEFI Boot Option present in BCD?

Ah damn, sorry. I used EasyBCD to remove those options from the boot menu - which worked. So I can no longer grab the detailed output. If it happens again (I will be doign similar re-installs over the holiday) I will be sure to grab it. I'm mostly just wondering how they got there.

BIOS / UEFI Boot Option present in BCD?

I wiped an MBR disk, converted it to GPT, pre-created partitions according to MS documentation on UEFI / GPT partition layout defaults (5 partitions - EFI System, MSR, Recovery, Windows + Data partition). I then installed Windows 10 Home Edition from bootable USB installation media created...

Auto Update settings not honored, and can cause crash...

Also, these version tests were done back to back, not hours or days between - immediately before I posted the results above. So literally nothing else changed between version tests.

Auto Update settings not honored, and can cause crash...

Please know that since I have been trying to use EasyBCD in a portable fashion - before I post problems I find, I fall back to a completely normal install. No alternate install folders, no messing with language folders, no lower-case renaming of anything - etc. So as to make sure I'm not...

Auto Update settings not honored, and can cause crash...

Looks like the GA build 207 fixes it... at least, I'm not seeing the message about the update check failing when my network conn is disabled. Cheers, and congrats on the new release!

Auto Update settings not honored, and can cause crash...

In trying the 2.3 beta build 205, even though I had disabled the auto update check - the app is still checking based on the following message that appears in the status bar of the UI: EasyBCD update check failed: The remote name could not be resolved: 'api.neosmart.net' I get this after first...

    EasyBCD File Dependancies

The developer has said he isn't really interested in supporting the use of EasyBCD in portable mode - and commented about running afoul of MS licensing re: WinPE. I think it's a shame since helping to ensure the tool can simply run in a stripped down WinPE environment doesn't have any...

    Hidden/Utillity partition support

For the curious: For BIOS/MBR partitioned drives, the "OEM" utility partition type (ID 27), causes Windows to disallow managing the partition. I.E. in DISKMGMT, all you get is a HELP action from right clicking on the partition. The only way I found to access the partition for use by EasyBCD is...

EasyBCD 2.3 Beta - Build 203 fails to load on Win7x64 Home Premium updated 2015-09-24

Confirmed, that updated dll resolves the problem caused by lowercase rename of the lang\* folder. Things still break if any of the 'contents' are lower-cased still, with some particularly interesting breakage happening when bcdlibrary.xml is lower cased ;-)... But again, a pathological...

EasyBCD 2.3 Beta - Build 203 fails to load on Win7x64 Home Premium updated 2015-09-24

Sorry to report that build 204 shows the same problem in a quick test here. If the en-US folder or most any of it's contents are lower cased, then the same sort of startup failure or other sorts of crashes happen. Note: I ack that this is a pathological sort of problem you shouldn't have to...
