    Getting Ubuntu to boot

No inconsistent data I just tried booting into Ubuntu twice and this time I didn't get any “inconsistent data” error at all—just the grub prompt.

    Getting Ubuntu to boot

Inconsistent data error I think so. I tried running Ubuntu prior to changing the MBR with EasyBCD and it worked fine. I also reformatted the relevant partitions with the Ubuntu installation. I suppose I could check with BootIt. Incidentally, I used the latest EasyBCD beta (version 2.1).

    Getting Ubuntu to boot

Still no go! I just tried it again—complete installation from scratch of Ubuntu followed by the same procedure. This time I got “starting cmain,” then a series of “inconsistent data” errors from grub2 and then, once again, the grub prompt.

    Getting Ubuntu to boot

Over the last couple of days I've installed Ubuntu (most recent version) twice to the second partition on my second hard drive. The installation goes well and I follow the procedure outlined at http://neosmart.net/wiki/display/EBCD/Ubuntu . Everything goes well until I get to step four...

    XP partition no longer boots

XP on multiboot machine Thanks Terry. I didn't know that. The wording in the HnS description seems to suggest that it is for machines that have only a single version of Vista on them. I run both Vista 32 and Vista 64. So I guess I will try the registry hack and see whether that works for me or...

    XP partition no longer boots

XP boot saga Okay, here's where I met with this problem now. I finally managed to get my slipstreamed SP three version of the XP Pro install CD to recognize and repair my XP installation. To do this I had to disconnect all external drives of all types. Unfortunately, however, when I tried to...

XP Pro installation CD doesn't recognize one terabyte hard drive

No luck! Unfortunately this did not work out very well. After I ran the dd command from terminal in the most recent Ubuntu CD not only did the XP installation still hang at the inspecting configuration stage, I had to do a complete restore of the whole hard disk from last night's incremental...

XP Pro installation CD doesn't recognize one terabyte hard drive

The only problem is that I can't past the initial configuration check, so I can't get to the Recovery Console option.

XP Pro installation CD doesn't recognize one terabyte hard drive

Can’t repair XP installation I updated to most recent BIOS—no change—installation CD still hangs in config. inspection. No explicit LBA-enable on this BIOS (Intel DQ965GF… with CoreDuo processor). ATA/ODE mode set to Native. Other option is "legacy."

XP Pro installation CD doesn't recognize one terabyte hard drive

Quite some time ago the XP Pro installation on one of the partitions on the hard drive (1 TB) on my main work machine stopped working. I posted to this forum and got good information on how to deal with the BCD repair issues using EasyBCD which I've used for multi-booting on this machine for...

    XP partition no longer boots

For almost 3 years I have used EasyBCD to multi-boot my main work machine at home (Vista 64, Vista 32, XP Pro, and Ubuntu). I have never had any problems, until now that is. Now, for some unknown reason, the XP partition will no longer boot. When I select XP, the HD LED shows no hard disk...

Moving a multiboot systemto dissimilar hardware

None OEM Thanks for this reassurance. It turns out that, by chance, all the systems on my main work machine are retail rather than OEM. Your message, however, still leaves me wondering what I would do if the mobo failed suddenly and unexpectedly and I chose to use the occasion to upgrade the mobo.

Moving a multiboot systemto dissimilar hardware

I use EasyBCD to multiboot my main work machine at home (Vista 32, Vista 64, XP, and Ubuntu). I also use Acronis to image my system drive. I note that Acronis now offers its Universal Restore product with its home version. Not long ago I used the commercial version of this product to migrate...

No video on Vista 64 startup

Thanks very much for the suggestions. The video was being rerouted to the TV upstairs. Unplugged, reset, and all is well. I've uninstalled VistaBootPro. I've always liked EasyBCD and wasn't aware of the code pirating. Anyway my computing life is back to normal and my panic attack is over...
