Win xp

I have purchased and downloaded both the XP Home and XP Professional easyre boot discs. When choosing automated repair it just sits there and spins with the 'please wait' symbol and never moves it has been that way for over an hour. Surely it would have found the windows installation by now and should have given me an option for automated repair or system restore. Does anyone have any idea on what I can do? This is a Toshiba Portege M700 laptop/tablet with Windows XP. I just want to fix the error config\system32 is missing or corrupt. The hard drive is an SSD drive. I changed it from ACHI to IDE in the bios otherwise it wouldn't be detected. I'm at a loss and would appreciate any feedback.
