Create new partition without reformatting the HDD?

Ok, so I gave up on recovering Vista from my PC and just installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 which I love. I really like the Ubuntu OS that is talked about here and want to install it on a second partition on my pc. When I installed Windows 7, there is only one partition. My question is "Can I create a new partition in Windows 7 for the Ubuntu without having to reformat the hard drive?" I know how to go into command prompt and use DISKPART and use the command CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY but won't that completely reformat the Hard drive and I have to start all over again with the Windows 7 installation? I want to know if it's possible to do this without having to start all over again.

Disk Management / Shrink will resize the W7 partition dynamically.
