My Windows 7 Sony VAIO laptop crashed; I suspect it was the motherboard. I have a new Sony VAIO Windows 8 Ultrabook. I wish to be able to boot from my old hard drive to access programs.
I have connected the old hard drive by a USB DriveWire, recognized as drive F:. I can view and access files. I installed EasyBCD and added the F: drive to the boot menu.
When I attempted to boot from the Windows 7 F: drive I got a message as follows:
File: Windows\system32\winload.exe
Status: 0xc0000428
Info: The digital signature for this file couldn't be verified.
Upon reading about this error in the NeoSmart forum, I downloaded EasyRE for Windows 7 and followed the directions for creating a boot disc from the ISO file.
I added the Boot drive to the EasyBCD boot menu and attempted to boot from the disc. Then I got another error message:
File: Windows\system32\winload.exe
Status: 0x000000f
I think perhaps I have all the right tools, but not being familiar with all of this, likely have missed some critical step in the setup. I don't understand how to get the Windows 7 boot disc to boot and then to repair the old hard drive F:, rather than the C: drive in the new laptop which is Windows 8.
Perhaps you can outline what details I am missing to get all of this to work (being able to boot from the F:\ Windows 7 drive).
Thank you for your assistance.
