EasyBCD shows wrong OS

I bought a refurbished computer that came with Vista installed, but no installation disks. I didn't want Vista so I installed WinXP on a different partition, leaving the Vista installation alone. But my computer boots straight into WinXP now, it doesn't have a dual boot option.

When I run EasyBCD(from WinXP) it only shows one entry in the windows bootloader: Vista. There is not mention of WinXP. But I look at the boot.ini file from WinXP, it only shows the WinXP boot.

I'm puzzled, why doesn't EasyBCD show the WinXP boot? Is there a way to get it to show it?

Ideally, I want to setup a dual boot system so I can start up Vista occasionally. Is there a way to do this with EasyBCD. BTW, Vista is of C drive, XP is on E drive.

Thanks in advance for any help...

Thanks Terry...I was just reading the FAQ and hadn't reached point 4. I see now that I'll have to figure out how to repair the Vista boot. But then if I want to uninstall Vista later, I'll have to figure out how to repair the XP boot. A good learning experience.

When you installed XP you back leveled the Vista bootmgr and replaced it with the legacy NTLDR.
That is incapable of booting any newer OS.
To dual-boot, you need to reinstate the Vista bootmgr as the controlling manager, and use it to dual-boot XP
