Win7 Hanging on Boot

Windows 7 64-bit Professional has been working for years just fine. Until today. It locked on the "Starting Windows" screen after booting -- no 4 colored dots converging to form a stylized "window". So I bought NeoSmart's EasyRE Professional for Windows 7.iso image and burned it to a CD, hoping it would boot as advertised:

Not a chance. The disc seemed to boot OK and then put up a DOS-like text box giving me the choice of Easy Recovery Essentials or East Recovery Essentials (VGA mode). If I selected either one and hit Enter, it just raced through a couple of text screens and then hung. If I chose "c" for a command prompt, I got another DOS-like screen titled GNU GRUB version 2.00-ubuntu3. What the heck? I don't speak Linux. Where's the Windows GUI that I thought I paid for (shown above)? Just to be sure, I burned another CD using different CD-burner software and had the identical results.

I hope I didn't just blow $40 (well, OK, actually $39.75) for nothing. What am I doing wrong?
