On various computer models from eMachines you don’t have a set of discs, but have a recovery partition already installed on your computer that you can use to restore your computer.<\/p>\n
Using this partition, you can restore your computer to its default settings like it was when the PC was first purchased.<\/p>\n
If you don’t have the set of discs already available and neither a recovery partition, you can download Easy Recovery Essentials<\/a> and run the Automated Repair function to automatically repair various boot errors or use the System Restore feature to restore your computer.<\/p>\n
Create recovery disk in Windows XP<\/h3>\n

You can create a recovery disk for Windows XP on a eMachine computer, if you have the software installed by eMachines that allows you to create the disks.<\/p>\n
Depending on your computer model, the following steps may slightly differ:<\/p>\n

This process deletes personal files stored on your PC and restores your PC to its default settings.<\/p>\n
Follow these steps to restore Windows XP on an eMachines PC:<\/p>\n

Boot Windows XP<\/li>\n
Insert the first recovery CD in the disc tray before Windows loads<\/li>\n
At the Windows Startup Menu, type `1<\/code> and press Enter<\/kbd><\/li>\n`

IF NO, PRESS N.<\/pre>\n<\/li>\nThe restore process will now begin to restore your computer to its default settings like it was when it was first purchased<\/li>\n When the “Insert next media and press enter to continue…<\/em>” message appears, remove the first CD from the disc tray and insert CD #2<\/li>\n Press Enter<\/kbd> to load CD #2<\/li>\n And so on for each restore CD you have available. Your computer model may have 2 or 3 restore CDs.<\/li>\n When the process is complete, remove any CDs from the disk tray<\/li>\n Press Enter<\/kbd> to restart your computer<\/li>\nBoot your PC and follow any instructions left to do to setup Windows again<\/li>\n<\/ol>\nRestore Windows Vista<\/h3>\nIf you don’t have the recovery software provided by eMachines, download our recovery and repair disk for eMachines<\/a>.<\/p>\n If you can’t boot into Windows Vista<\/h4>\nIf you don’t have the recovery disks, you can use the recovery partition installed on your eMachines computer to restore Windows Vista. To do so, follow these steps:<\/p>\n\nBoot your computer<\/li>\n Press the F8<\/kbd> key multiple times to boot into the Advanced Boot Options<\/li>\n At the Advanced Boot Options screen, select Repair Your Computer<\/strong> \n\n<\/li>\n Press Enter<\/kbd><\/li>\n Select a keyboard layout<\/li>\n Click Next<\/li>\n Login as an Administrator or as any user that has administrative rights to the PC<\/li>\n Click OK<\/li>\n At the System Recovery Options window, select Recovery Manager<\/strong>. This is usually the last item from the list. \n\n<\/li>\n The Welcome to eMachines system Recovery<\/em> window should appear now<\/li>\n Click Next to continue<\/li>\n Select what type of recovery you want: Recovery with automatic data backup<\/strong> or Full factory recovery<\/strong>.\nA Full factory recovery will erase anything on your computer (including personal files) and restores the system to factory settings (when first purchased).<\/li>\n After you selected an option, click Next<\/strong><\/li>\n Select Yes<\/strong> at the “Are you sure you want to continue?<\/em>” screen<\/li>\n Click Next<\/strong><\/li>\n Wait for the process to finish<\/li>\n At the Recovery is complete<\/em> screen, click Finish<\/strong><\/li>\n Your PC will now restart<\/li>\nFollow the instructions on the screen to setup Windows Vista again<\/li>\n<\/ol>\nIf you have the set of recovery discs, follow these steps:<\/p>\n\nPower on the computer<\/li>\n Insert CD #1 in the disk tray of your computer before Windows loads<\/li>\n When the eMachines logo is displayed on your monitor, press the F12<\/kbd> key<\/li>\n At the Boot Menu<\/em> screen, select the CD\/DVD<\/strong> option<\/li>\n Press Enter<\/kbd><\/li>\n Select Restore<\/strong> from the list on the left<\/li>\n Select Completely Restore System to Factory Defaults<\/strong><\/li>\nInsert the CDs or DVDs when prompted<\/li>\n<\/ol>\nRestore Windows 7<\/h3>\nIf you can boot into Windows 7<\/h4>\nIf you don’t have the recovery software provided by eMachines, download our recovery and repair disk for eMachines<\/a>.<\/p>\n If you’re able to boot into Windows 7, use the Recovery Management software to restore the operating system.<\/p>\n eMachines Recovery Management gives you 3 options to choose from as part of the restore process:<\/p>\n \nCompletely Restore System to Factory Default:<\/strong> this option will delete all data from your computer and it would restore it to factory settings (when first purchased).<\/li>\n Restore Operating System and Retain User Data:<\/strong> this option will move your personal files to a “backup” folder, while it restores your operating system to its default settings.<\/li>\nReinstall Drivers or Applications:<\/strong> this option will reinstall drivers and applications.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\nThe steps are:<\/p>\n\nGo to Start<\/strong> and find the eMachines Recovery Management<\/strong> application either by going to All Programs or by typing recovery<\/code> in the search field<\/li>\n Click Restore<\/strong> from the menu on the left<\/li>\n Choose what type of restore you want: Completely Restore System<\/strong>, Restore Operating System<\/strong> or Reinstall Drivers or Applications<\/strong><\/li>\n You may be prompted to enter the password. Do so and then click OK.<\/strong><\/li>\nFollow any wizard instructions left to complete the process<\/li>\n<\/ol>\nIf you can’t boot into Windows 7<\/h4>\nIf you don’t have the recovery software provided by eMachines, download our recovery and repair disk for eMachines<\/a>.<\/p>\n If you have the set of recovery discs, follow these steps to restore the PC:<\/p>\n \nStart the computer<\/li>\n Insert the first disk in the CD\/DVD drive<\/li>\n Restart the computer again and hold the R<\/kbd> key to enter the Options menu<\/li>\n Select a restore option: Non-Destructive System Restore<\/strong> or Full System Restore<\/strong>.\nThe Full System Restore process deletes all your files from the computer. Backup your files!<\/p>\n<\/li>\nFollow the on-screen instructions to complete the restore process<\/li>\n<\/ol>\nRestore Windows 8<\/h3>\nIf you can boot into Windows 8<\/h4>\nIf you don’t have the recovery software provided by eMachines, download our recovery and repair disk for eMachines<\/a>.<\/p>\n If you upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8 and have the eMachines Recovery Management software, follow these steps to restore your system (steps taken from the Gateway recovery disk guide<\/a>):<\/p>\n \nPower on your computer<\/li>\n Press the <\/span><\/kbd> and C<\/kbd> key to begin a search<\/li>\n Type recovery<\/code> and click eMachines Recovery Management<\/strong><\/li>\n Click on Restore Factory Settings<\/strong>, at the Restore<\/em> tab from the left menu<\/li>\n Click Next<\/li>\n Click Fully clean the drive option<\/strong><\/li>\n Click Reset<\/strong><\/li>\nYour computer will restart and begin the restore process<\/li>\n<\/ol>\nIf you can’t boot into Windows 8<\/h4>\nIf you don’t have the recovery software provided by eMachines, download our recovery and repair disk for eMachines<\/a>.<\/p>\n If the recovery partition on your PC is still intact, follow these instructions instead:<\/p>\n \nRestart the computer<\/li>\n Press the Alt<\/kbd> and F10<\/kbd> keys when the eMachines logo appears<\/li>\n At the next screen, select Restore Operating System to Factory Defaults<\/strong><\/li>\n Read the text at the Notice<\/em> screen<\/li>\n Click Next<\/strong><\/li>\nWait for the process to finish<\/li>\n<\/ol>\nIf you have a set of recovery discs, follow these instructions:<\/p>\n\nPower on the computer<\/li>\n If you have a USB flash drive as a recovery media, go to BIOS first and make sure the “USB HDD<\/strong>” option is at the top of the list in the Boot tab.
