Fix a corrupt registry in Windows XP<\/h2>\n

To fix a corrupt registry on a Windows XP system, follow these instructions:<\/p>\n

  1. Insert the Windows XP setup CD and restart the computer<\/li>\n
  2. Press any key to boot from the CD<\/li>\n
  3. Press R<\/kbd> to access Repair Console<\/li>\n
  4. Enter the Administrator password. When the Command Prompt appears, type the following commands, one at a time and press Enter<\/kbd> after each command, replacing C:<\/code> with the Windows’ drive letter:\n

  5. Type exit<\/code> and remove your CD:\n

  6. Press Enter<\/kbd><\/li>\n
  7. Restart your computer<\/li>\n
  8. Boot into Safe Mode<\/strong> by repeatedly pressing the F8<\/kbd> key after booting until the Startup Options menu appears<\/li>\n
  9. Choose to boot into Safe Mode<\/strong><\/li>\n
  10. Start Windows Explorer (or open any folder or open My Computer)<\/li>\n
  11. Click Tools<\/strong><\/li>\n
  12. Click Folder Options<\/strong><\/li>\n
  13. Go to the View<\/em> tab<\/li>\n
  14. At the Under hidden files and folders<\/em>, select Show hidden files and folders<\/strong> and then click the Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)<\/strong> check box to be cleared (unchecked)<\/li>\n
  15. Click Yes<\/strong> to confirm these actions\n

  16. Go to My Computer<\/strong> > C:\\<\/code> drive or the drive where you installed your Windows<\/li>\n

    \nYou’re most likely to receive Access denied<\/em> if your Windows XP is on NTFS and not on FAT32.
    \nIf it’s on FAT32, you can continue the steps below.<\/li>\n
  18. Open any folder that wasn’t created at the current time, e.g. when you logged into the computer at this session.You can check this by right clicking on the first folder and check its date.The title format of these folders is something like this:\n

    Open any RP<\/strong> folder in that folder, e.g. RP1, and go to Snapshot<\/strong>.These are called Restore Points. Here is an example of path:<\/pre>\n

  20. From the Snapshot<\/strong> folder, copy the following files to C:\\Windows\\Tmp<\/code>\n
