Back up and restore the registry in Windows XP<\/h2>\n

To back up the registry on a Windows XP computer, follow these steps:<\/p>\n

  1. Click Start<\/strong><\/li>\n
  2. Click Run<\/strong><\/li>\n
  3. Type regedit<\/code> in the search box and click OK<\/strong> to open the Registry Editor<\/li>\n
  4. On the left pane, click Computer<\/strong> to select it<\/li>\n
  5. From File<\/strong>, in the menu, click Export<\/strong><\/li>\n
  6. In the Export Registry File<\/em> window, type a filename for this backup<\/li>\n
  7. Then choose All<\/strong> under the Export range<\/em> section and select a location on your system where you want to save the backup registry file, then click Save<\/strong>.\n

    Add a meaningful name for the backup file to distinguish different backup files, if you have multiples ones.<\/p>\n

    You can save the file to Desktop.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The registry backup files are saved with this extension: .reg<\/code><\/p>\n

    To restore the registry in Windows XP, follow these steps:<\/p>\n
