The ntdll.dll file is a library created by Microsoft that basic contains NT kernel functions. It is required by the system to load properly, and it must be located in the %windir%\/system32 folder. If it is missing or corrupt, then the 0x0000006b error screen appears.<\/p>\n

Here is an example of an error screen that appears on Windows XP, Vista, and Windows 7<\/p>\n

Cause 1: NTDLL.dll file is missing or corrupt<\/h4>\n
The NTDLL.dll file, located at %windir%\/system32 is a vital component of Windows boot process, and the system cannot work properly if it is corrupt or missing. This may happen because of disk read\/write errors, virus attacks, or power outages.<\/p>\n
Cause 2: Bootcat.cache file is corrupt<\/h4>\n
On Windows 7 and Windows 2008 R2 with no Service Packs installed, this error is caused because the Bootcat.cache file is corrupted or its size was changed. If that’s the case, the user should either delete this file manually, or install the latest Service Pack provided by Microsoft<\/p>\n
Fixing “0x0000006B<\/strong>” on Windows<\/h2>\n

  2. Restart your computer.<\/li>\n
  3. Press any key to boot into the CD when you see the “Press any key to boot from CD” message.<\/li>\n
  4. Press\u00a0R<\/kbd>\u00a0to start\u00a0Recovery Console<\/strong>\u00a0when the Options screen appears.<\/li>\n
  5. Type in your Administrator password followed by the\u00a0Enter<\/kbd>\u00a0key to submit it.<\/li>\n

    2. Fully power down your PC, and make sure it has fully shut off,<\/li>\n
    3. Power up your PC,<\/li>\n
    4. Press any key when you see “Press any key to boot from CD or DVD..”<\/li>\n
    5. Click the link titled “Repair your computer<\/strong>”\u00a0in the bottom-lefthand corner, after first selecting your language and keyboard options.

      2. Click on Repair your co<\/strong>mputer<\/strong>\u00a0after selecting proper language, time and keyboard input.<\/li>\n
      3. Select the Windows installation drive, which is usually C:\\<\/code>, and click Next<\/strong><\/li>\n
      4. Choose Command Prompt when the System Recovery Options box appears<\/li>\n
      5. Write the following command and press Enter<\/kbd> afterwards:\n
        sfc \/scannow \/offbootdir=D:\\ \/offwindir=D:\\Windows\\<\/pre>\n
        Replace D: with the letter of the driver where Windows is installed, and D:\\Windows with the Windows folder location.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
        Here is an example of what the PC’s console output should look like once the sfc.exe scan is complete and missing files are successfully restored:<\/p>\n

        If the error is caused by a corrupt Bootcat.cache file, it is possible to delete it manually and install the Service Pack to fix this error once the system loads successfully. To do so, follow these steps:<\/p>\n

        1. Insert the Windows 7 installation DVD<\/li>\n
        2. Restart the computer<\/li>\n
        3. Boot from the DVD<\/li>\n
        4. At the Install Windows<\/em> screen, select Repair your computer<\/strong> or press R<\/kbd>

        5. At the System Recovery Options<\/em> screen, select Command Prompt<\/strong>

        6. When Command Prompt appears, type the letter of the drive where your Windows 7 is installed:\n

          Replace D:<\/code> with the letter of the drive where Windows 7 is installed, if D:<\/code> is not your default installation drive.<\/li>\n
        7. Press Enter<\/kbd><\/li>\n
        8. Then type:\n
          cd windows\\system32\\codeintegrity<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n
        9. Press Enter<\/kbd><\/li>\n
        10. Type:\n
          del bootcat.cache<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n
        11. Press Enter<\/kbd><\/li>\n
        12. Restart your computer<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          4. Click Check for updates<\/strong><\/li>\n
          5. Select Service Pack for Microsoft (KB976932)<\/strong><\/li>\n
          6. Click OK<\/strong><\/li>\n
          7. Click Install Updates<\/strong><\/li>\n
          8. Type the Administrator password, when prompted<\/li>\n
          9. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
            Fix #5: Check the hard drive with CHKDSK utility<\/span><\/h3>\n
            If the hard drive has its file integrity compromised, it is possible to use built-in Windows CHKDSK utility to scan the disk and fix the file system errors.<\/p>\n
            Here are the steps to run CHKDSK:<\/p>\n

            1. Boot from your Windows install disc<\/li>\n
            2. Click on Repair your co<\/strong>mputer<\/strong>\u00a0after selecting proper language, time and keyboard input.<\/li>\n
            3. Select the Windows installation drive, which is usually C:\\<\/code>, and click Next<\/strong><\/li>\n
            4. Choose Command Prompt when the System Recovery Options box appears<\/li>\n
