utility can also be used to mark a partition as active. You&#8217;re going to use the bootsect.exe file from the CD and not bootrec.exe. Follow these steps:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Insert your Windows install CD<\/li>\n<li>Select <strong>Repair your computer<\/strong> after you go through the initial screen<\/li>\n<li>Select your Windows installation drive (usually <code>C:\\<\/code>)<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Next<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Choose <strong>Command Prompt<\/strong> at <em>System Recovery Options<\/em> window screen<\/li>\n<li>Determine which drive letter your Windows installation disk is on. Run the following commands in the exact same order and hit <kbd>Enter<\/kbd> after each:\n<pre>diskpart select disk 0 list volume<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<li>After entering <code>list volume<\/code> your Command Prompt will show a list of available drives.Search for the item that has &#8220;CD-ROM&#8221; in the &#8220;Type&#8221; column and check what letter it has assigned in the &#8220;LTR&#8221; column. In our example (and from now on) our CD drive letter is <strong>E:<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Close the <code>diskpart<\/code> process by running <code>exit<\/code> and hit <kbd>Enter<\/kbd>:\n<pre>exit<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<li>Type the CD drive&#8217;s letter, <code>F:<\/code> (simply <code>F:<\/code>), in the Command Prompt line, like this:\n<pre>F:<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<li>Type <code>cd boot<\/code> and then type <code>dir<\/code> to show the list of files and directories in the <code>boot<\/code> directory of the <code>F:<\/code> drive.
