    1. Insert your Windows installation DVD into your PC’s CD-ROM drive,<\/li>\n
    2. Fully power down your PC, and make sure it has fully shut off,<\/li>\n
    3. Power up your PC,<\/li>\n
    4. Press any key when you see “Press any key to boot from CD or DVD..”<\/li>\n
    5. Click the link titled “Repair your computer<\/strong>”\u00a0in the bottom-lefthand corner, after first selecting your language and keyboard options.

    6. Wait for Startup Repair to scan your PC for Windows installations, then select your install from the list it shows:

      Since the boot error is often caused by a missing\u00a0BCD, rebuilding it is often a good\u00a0solution.<\/p>\n
      Here are the steps to rebuild the BCD:<\/p>\n

      1. Boot from your Windows installation media<\/li>\n
      2. Click on Repair your computer<\/strong> after selecting proper language, time and keyboard input.<\/li>\n
      3. Select the Windows installation drive, which is usually C:\\<\/code>, and click Next<\/strong><\/li>\n
      4. Choose Command Prompt when the System Recovery Options box appears<\/li>\n
      5. Write the following command and press Enter<\/kbd> afterwards:\n
        bootrec \/rebuildbcd<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n
      6. If the program finds a Windows installation and asks whether it should add it to the boot list, press Y<\/kbd><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        Fix #4: Mark partition as active using Diskpart<\/h3>\n
        The built-in Diskpart Windows utility can also be used to mark a partition as active. Note that the marked partition must contain the Windows bootloader for Windows to load correctly.<\/p>\n
        Here are the steps to run Diskpart and change the disk’s status:<\/p>\n
          \n
        1. Boot from the Windows install disc<\/li>\n
        2. Click on Repair your computer<\/strong> after after selecting proper language, time and keyboard input<\/li>\n
        3. Select the Windows installation drive, which is usually C:\\<\/code>, and click Next<\/strong><\/li>\n
        4. Choose Command Prompt when the System Recovery Options box appears<\/li>\n
        5. Write the following command and press Enter<\/kbd> afterwards:\n
          diskpart<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n
        6. Then, write\n
          list volume<\/pre>\n
          to get the list of all available partitions, and press Enter<\/kbd>.<\/li>\n
        7. Then, write\n
          select volume X<\/pre>\n
          to select the volume you want to mark as active, and press Enter<\/kbd><\/li>\n
        8. Then, write\n
          active<\/pre>\n
          to mark the currently selected volume as active, and press Enter<\/kbd><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          Fix #<\/span>5<\/span>: Restore the MBR<\/span><\/h3>\n
          This fix demands more commands you need to type than the Fix #1 above. You’re going to use the bootsect.exe file from the CD and not bootrec.exe. Follow these steps:<\/p>\n
            \n
          1. Insert your Windows install CD<\/li>\n
          2. Select Repair your computer<\/strong> after you go through the initial screen<\/li>\n
          3. Select your Windows installation drive (usually C:\\<\/code>)<\/li>\n
          4. Click Next<\/strong><\/li>\n
          5. Choose Command Prompt<\/strong> at System Recovery Options<\/em> window screen<\/li>\n
          6. Determine which drive letter your Windows installation disk is on. Run the following commands in the exact same order and hit Enter<\/kbd> after each:\n
            diskpart select disk 0 list volume<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n
          7. After entering list volume<\/code> your Command Prompt will show a list of available drives.Search for the item that has “CD-ROM” in the “Type” column and check what letter it has assigned in the “LTR” column. In our example (and from now on) our CD drive letter is E:<\/strong><\/li>\n
          8. Close the diskpart<\/code> process by running exit<\/code> and hit Enter<\/kbd>:\n
            exit<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n
          9. Type the CD drive’s letter, F:<\/code> (simply F:<\/code>), in the Command Prompt line, like this:\n
            F:<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n
          10. Type cd boot<\/code> and then type dir<\/code> to show the list of files and directories in the boot<\/code> directory of the F:<\/code> drive. You will now see a bootsect.exe<\/code> file listed. Here are the commands in order:\n
            cd boot dir<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n
          11. Now type the following command and hit Enter<\/kbd>:\n
            bootsect \/nt60 SYS \/mbr<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n
          12. After seeing the success message, Bootcode was successfully updated on all targeted volumes.<\/strong>, type exit<\/code> to quit the Command Prompt:\n
