EasyBCD 2.02 cann't find my WindowsXP!

Hi
I am new on this site so I want say hello to all of you first. Sorry for my English which is not my first language.

My problem is that I have had the dual boot menu done with EasyBCD 1.7.2 which wasn't working when used to start Windows XP.

It looked like this:
There are a total 2 entries listed in the bootloader.

Default: 'Windows 7
Timeout : 15 seconds
Boot Drive: I:\

Entry #1
Name: Windows XP
BCD ID: {f09dbd91.... df8334b3fal2ce9}
Drive D:\
Bootloader Path: \NTLDR

Entry #2
Name: Windows 7
BCD ID: {current}
Drive C:\
Bootloader Path: \Windows\system32\winload.exe
I wanted to repair this menu and after reading the FAQ on this site I downloaded EasyBCD 2.02, installed it, and deleted Entry #1.
Then I tried to Add New Entry without success :shame:
Error message just paralyzed me:
EasyBCD failed to detect a valid installation of Windows NT-2003 on all mounted drives and was unable to continue.
I didn't boot my computer after that for I am afraid it will not do it :tongueout:oint:
Please help me but do not forget that I am a newbie and need step by step instructions.

Change the BIOS boot sequence to put your 200Gb HDD (I) first in the list.
Then boot W7 and delete/add the XP entry again, letting EasyBCD 2.0 auto-configure

Thank you Terry!

Change the BIOS boot sequence to put your 200Gb HDD (I) first in the list.

That is already done. Disk1, 186,3Gb, Extra I: is default (first) in Bios to boot.
Then boot W7 and delete/add the XP entry again, letting EasyBCD 2.0 auto-configure

I will try, if I'll not show up on forum during next one hour then...:ldown: :rage:

Error again

It doesn't change situation!
But it boot in Win7 so it isn't an emergency case any more

Can you use EasyBCD > Useful utilities > Power console
and type in
bootgrabber.exe /tlist
then post a screenshot of the output in your reply.

Can you look on your XP partition at Windows\System32\kernel32.dll and right click it , select properties>details and see what the file version number is.

Kernell

Does it matters that pathway is D:\XP\System32\...?

Yes it matters.
EasyBCD checks for a Windows folder and a 5.x kernel.
That's why it's not auto-detecting.
Try adding the entry with "auto" unticked, and set the drive to D:

I did it before

Sorry, didn't I write it? I did it before, many times, the same error message!

I've just checked by adding entries for good and non-existent XPs and even if it's manually added, not auto-detected, EasyBCD will still verify a genuine XP exists on the selected drive.
How did your Windows folder get to be called XP ?
Is this a genuine licenced copy of XP ?

Yes, my Widows XP is genuin Pro SP3 version which worked some years on my computer.
I have had a older version of Windows on the same partition before and when I installed WinXP the install program asked me if I want to override or install in the other location I choose to name it XP.
I steal have the instillation DVD and key number.

See, that won't work because EasyBCD is hard-coded to only accept Windows or WINNT as the Windows installation folder name.

A quick workaround:

EasyBCD | Useful Utilities | Power Console:

Code:
mklink.exe /J D:\Windows\ D:\XP\

Then use EasyBCD to add the entry once more.

I do not have...

What I do wrong?
I tried some combination but can't finde the right syntax!

Make link success

Well, I couldn't stop trying :tongueout:
I tried without .exe and it went well.

And after that EasyBCD made Entry at last :booyah:

I will try it now and will be back with rapport soon!

There is something wrong with me...

I got menu and it works when I chose Windows 7, but when I chose Windows XP I get the message:

NTDETECT FAILED

I didn't fined ntdetect file on my I: där EasyBCD made boot.ini

The only file I found was in C:\...\EasyBCD\.. map.
When I tried to run/open the file I get the message its wrong version of the file, see down there.

So I didn't tell that my Win7 is 64 bit or EasyBCD didn't made it to 64 bit or what?
As I said before, I am a newbie and do not understand a lot :shame:
I hope that you can help me on that issue too, please! :grinning:
