    Default Cannot restore Windows 7 boot

    Last night I went into my old Ubuntu installation and found that I can update it. Well I did. Imagine my surprise after the restart prompting me to an annoying Grub rescue or whatever console stating that something with a weirdly looking ID does not exist. Well guess what that something was my HDD. The stupid Ubuntu made my bios not recognize my hard drive.

    As with anything linux it is of course cryptic and with no on site support. Which means that if you do not have two PCs at hand you have no idea of knowing what to do with that stupidly looking console. Of course I did the easy way I plugged in my XP installation CD and formated my XP installation and reinstalled. Now I have an installed 7 that does not want to boot and an installed XP that boots all the time and EasyBCD cannot make it boot into 7.

    This is what I was able to do with EasyBCD:

    There are a total of 2 entries listed in the bootloader.

    Default: Microsoft Windows 7
    Timeout: 10 seconds
    EasyBCD Boot Device: C:\

    Entry #1
    Name: Microsoft Windows XP
    BCD ID: {dd4464b0-b1b8-11df-8fad-002655b702b8}
    Device: boot
    Bootloader Path: \NST\ntldr

    Entry #2
    Name: Microsoft Windows 7
    BCD ID: {default}
    Drive: D:\
    Bootloader Path: \Windows\system32\winload.exe

    I tried putting 7 as default. No luck. Any ideas will be much appreciated.
    Hate linux cryptic messages. This linux gave me more problems that the blue screens of windows.

    Did you rewrite the MBR to W7 level after you clobbered it by installing XP ?

    I am not sure. I did click on install Windows 7 MBR or something like that.

    It did not work.

    Anyway I burned a repair windows 7 DVD and I was able to repair it through there.

    I am just disappointed at Ubuntu for the mess it created for me.
