As long as Vista is still in support, then Vista Mail updates are portable to W7. By time Vista is abandoned completely we'll all be on Eight (or Nine), and a whole new set of problems for those of us that like to stick to the old familiar apps will be in effect.
(I'm still using Lotus 97, originally installed on W95 and transferred across to ME, XP, Vista and Seven, and it still works fine. You can see from this screenshot of my 123 accounts why I'm reluctant to rewrite my apps using OO or some other more up-to-date alternative.
It's 5 layers deep, self-generating 1 month ahead, with a 7 year line-a-day archive of every account and card transaction in my financial history. Needless to say, there's a massive job of recoding for a new app and I don't intend to do it till I have no alternative.
