Cannot boot Win7

Win7 on my Dell desktop ran as advertised until EasyBCD was installed following instructions provided BUT NOT RUN. All subsequent reboots from C:\ fail with err msg "boot config data failure" and msg # 0xc0000098. Apparently the corrupted file is \boot\bcd. The PC will boot from DVD/CD drive. Also for some unknown reason "safe mode" cannot be entered using F8 key (either held down or tapped repeatedly). There may be multiple problems so before buying the RE disk, it makes sense to determine how many bugs exist. If buying the recovery disk is the ONLY solution, is it safe to assume a quick recovery ?? Is quick response tech support avail from NeoSmart ?? Thanx.

You installed EasyBCD but never actually opened it and you think that it crashed W7 simply by being there ?
It's not a part of the OS, just a .NET application.
It can't affect your PC other than occupy a small amount of disk space.
Its only purpose is to help you manage the contents of your BCD,
If you open it and ask it to make changes to the way your PC boots it will do what you tell it to do, although it will attempt to prevent you doing something catastrophic with BIG SCARY warnings if it sees that you are leaving the BCD in an unbootable state.
Since you haven't run it, it hasn't changed your system in any way and can't be responsible for whatever has happened.
If you have the W7 installation DVD, uou don't need to buy EasyRE
Boot from the DVD and choose Repair my PC > Repair Boot
Do the above line (including the boot) three times
It should fix any problem with the boot files.
