Booting off a virtual drive

Is it possible to boot offa virtual drive?? Say Daemon Tools or Alcohol??
I was just wondering since my CD-Drive is busted. If were to make a digital image of my Vista installation disc, could i use it to boot??

Or would it not work because you have to boot into the OS before accessing the virtual drive??

Just wondering.

You can't boot from a virtual image. However, Windows Vista can be installed from a virtual image since it copies all the files over before it restarts.

Just start the Vista setup from within Windows via DT or Alcohol, then proceed as normal.

Another option is to use an external drive, of course.

Your last thought is correct Ron!n.
The emulator runs as a startup task when you boot, so there'd be nothing to boot from till after you boot.
This logical paradox can only be overcome by the use of a time machine.
I'd recommend a Mk 1 Tardis.

I was considering this as a solution since last time i tried i was unable to boot off an external drive.
And Terry whats an M1 tardis???
I searched for it and this is all i could find:
Real Police Boxes / The TARDIS Library
Whatever this is it doesnt look like a time machine.

And I thought Dr Who would be recognized globally ! (been around since JFK was assassinated)
start here Ron!n

and check whether you've got what it takes to fly a Tardis here

This is what a Tardis is

The word has entered the English language now to describe anything that's deceptively spacious inside, because the Tardis is famously bigger inside than out. e.g. "The Mini can, Tardis-like, seat 5 adults in comfort"

fyi. The tardis has a cloaking mechanism to blend with its surroundings, but the circuitry got fried in 1960's London, and it got stuck looking like a Police Box.
