Hi Dutchaz, welcome to NST.
You've added an entry for XP, pointing it at your Vista C:\ partition, and presumably you copied the XP boot files into the C:\ root too.
Unfortunately, when you repaired your Vista boot (or maybe it was like this all along), the Vista bootmgr and BCD got installed on your recovery partition (D:\)
You can see that it's marked "active", which is why the Vista boot got put on there, and it's letting you know it's there with the "system" flag.
You just need to go into EasyBCD and change the XP disk to D or "boot", and copy the XP files to the D: root instead of the C:, and everything should start to work.

Hi Dutchaz, welcome to NST.

Try what Terry suggested, that should do the trick - if not, just post back and we'll get to the bottom of this.

It's great to see another dual-monitor person here :grinning:

similar vista/xp cohabitation issue

Hi everybody,
I have similar problem to that described above.
When i load and choose vista, everytning is fine. But when i try the xp option, the computer restarts even before loading the system.
I intalled two systems seperately, while installing Vista, the other disc with xp was unplugged( now both of the disks are inside my laptop).
Then, on vista, i used easybcd and pointed that xp is on disk D. ntdlr, boot.ini and ntdetect and bootmgr are present on the same disk, too.

here's what easybcd says:

There are a total of 2 entries listed in the Vista Bootloader.
Bootloader Timeout: 5 seconds.
Default OS: Vista

Entry #1

Name: Vista
BCD ID: {current}
Drive: C:\
Bootloader Path: \Windows\system32\winload.exe
Windows Directory: \Windows

Entry #2

Name: XP
BCD ID: {fe21e02e-45e2-11dd-97aa-001641813420}
Drive: D:\
Bootloader Path: \NTLDR

------------------------------------------------------

boot.ini on disk D looks like this:

;
;Warning: Boot.ini is used on Windows XP and earlier operating systems.
;Warning: Use BCDEDIT.exe to modify Windows Vista boot options.
;
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /NOEXECUTE=OPTIN /FASTDETECT

any ideas?

Karol

The Vista bootmgr expects to find the 3 XP files in its own partition root, then when you choose XP, it will chain to NTLDR which uses boot.ini to find XP.
You need to copy those files to C:\ then point the copy of boot.ini back to the XP rdisk
Then change the EasyBCD entry for XP back to C:\
