Auto Creating Boot.ini

I am following the Automatically Creating Boot.ini on Page 16. Everything goes to spec until I am offered a detected windows installation to which I type yes and the system responds with Load Identifier. I hit enter and then get OS Load Options. I hit enter again and revert to the XP recovery console.

When I reboot I get the NTDLR missing message if i choose XP but Vista works OK

Please explain and tell me just how other people manage to get XP/Vista dual boot to work?

I now have an operational dual boot system but there is something not quite right with XP - you can never satisfy an end user.
