Autoplay not coming up

Distinguished Member
Well basically it used to and now it doesn't, i've tried a few things but none of them seem to work, the main problem for this is when i pop in a cd and i can't access any files on it, the same goes for a usb but i can just go to my computer and open it from there but this only works on usb, any ideas?
Go into the Control Panel and find the Auto Play options there. Make sure each option is set how you want it.
here you are,

the "gpedit.msc" was not working and on another similar tutorial it says that gpedit.msc is not available on windows vista home edition which is what i have, theres a registry change file that disables autoplay but i want the opposite, any more ideas?
What's the registry zap ? Maybe we can work out what the reverse should be.

Guru and Mak are "ultimate" guys.
They don't know what life is like for us poor "homies"
O23 - Service: Secondary Logon (seclogon) - Unknown owner - %windir%\system32\svchost.exe (file missing)

Use HiJack This to remove that entry.

This entry is very suspecious. It is a real process. Related to the RealTek Driver. But why is it running from a Temp Directory? I would check that out and even possibly remove it. There is no reason for a sound driver to run from a Temp Directory at all.
If you got the .reg file for the registry zap open it in notepad and post its contents so we can help you to do the opposite to get autoplay working again.
The trick is to open notepad and than open the file from there. Otherwise, it is like an executible sorta that applies the changes in the file to the registry. I'll go ahead and take a look at if for you though...

Hmm... the link you gave me displays the filename/filesize but I don't see a download button.

oh sorry, what you do is type the 3 letter code into the box, (its in the top right of the screen), a timer will appear, wait about 45 seconds and the timer will dissapear and be replaced with a grey button saying "free download" and click that and you can download the file, :grinning:

anyway, i've done it,

"Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Group Policy Objects\{E5A46B35-525D-4594-ABB1-CE915479D7CD}Machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]

Ok... open registry editor and navigate to the following sub-key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Group Policy Objects\{E5A46B35-525D-4594-ABB1-CE915479D7CD}Machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

You'll want to delete the "NoTypeDriveAutoRun" d-word value. You might need to reboot for any changes take affect.

Orginal .reg file:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Group Policy Objects\{E5A46B35-525D-4594-ABB1-CE915479D7CD}Machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]

Beat me to the punch... is it working?

Are you sure that the USB Drive isnt what is infecting your system? Have you run spyware/malware/antivirus scans to make sure your clean?
Are you sure that the USB Drive isnt what is infecting your system? Have you run spyware/malware/antivirus scans to make sure your clean?

yup ran scans with

spybot search and destroy
superanti spyware
ad-aware 2008
malbytes anti virus

all scans are seperate times and with the option of complete scan, no viruses, its a clean machine
Did you do it from Safe Mode? Just doing it in Windows doesnt mean it is a clean machine. Could be a driver that is infected that is preventing this. I have seen many viruses in the Driver folder for Windows. Not seen or scanned while in normal mode.
