Booting into XP, XP screen appears, then reboots.

I have just installed Easy BCD 2.1 and am trying to dual boot Win 7 and XP. Got XP installed but on booting into XP the XP screen appears briefly and then the system reboots. How can I get it to work properly??

After selecting XP and hitting enter, immediately start tapping F8 repeatedly.
That will interrupt the chain to XP's NTLDR and enter the XP extended boot menu.
In that menu, select the "no automatic restart.... " option.
You should then get an error screen instead of a reboot and you can websearch on the stop code for an indication of why your XP boot is failing.

Hi there, tried this but it didn't work. Did not get to the XP extended boot menu - instead got to Windows avanced options - and after selecting something just got a brief Windows XP start screen and then a reboot again.

There are a total of 2 entries listed in the bootloader.
Default: Windows 7
Timeout: 30 seconds
EasyBCD Boot Device: D:\
Entry #1
Name: Windows 7
BCD ID: {current}
Drive: C:\
Bootloader Path: \Windows\system32\winload.exe
Entry #2
Name: Windows XP Pro
BCD ID: {e1c1fd1f-dc17-11e1-84a1-cfb39fb02618}
Drive: D:\
Bootloader Path: \NST\ntldr

It is called advanced boot options.
This is the one you want.
The picture shows Vista but the XP menu looks the same
You must get the timing correct to intercept the NTLDR chain.
It's a very small window of opportunity especially on a modern fast PC.
