Can I Migrate Selected Google Workspace Data to Microsoft 365 Instead of Everything?

I’m planning a Google Workspace migration where not every mailbox needs to be moved in its entirety. Some users only need recent emails, while others need several years of historical messages and Drive content. Because of that, I’m looking for a way to select what should actually be transferred instead of migrating everything by default.

Date-based selection seems useful for this situation. If a department only needs its recent communication, there may be little reason to process years of old messages. At the same time, certain users may need their complete mailbox for compliance or business continuity.

I’m researching how to migrate Google Workspace to Office 365 while maintaining the existing mailbox organization. The source data includes Gmail labels, attachments, contacts, calendars, and tasks, and there are also Drive files that may need to move to Microsoft 365 or another destination.

Another concern is duplicate data. Some users may have already moved part of their information during an earlier migration attempt. Reprocessing everything could create unnecessary duplicates, so I’m interested in whether the migration process can identify previously migrated items and continue from the existing progress.

The SysInfo Google Workspace Backup Tool caught my attention because its documentation mentions date-range filtering, duplicate handling, resume migration, and skipping previously migrated items. It also supports CSV-based batch account mapping, which could be useful if multiple users are being processed.

I also like the idea of having detailed reports during the migration. If an item fails or is skipped, the administrator should be able to identify it instead of assuming that every source item reached the destination.

For organizations planning to migrate from Google Workspace to Office 365, I’m wondering whether selective migration is generally easier to manage than transferring the complete Workspace environment. Would you divide users by department and apply different date ranges, or keep the migration rules consistent for everyone?

I’d be particularly interested in hearing from admins who have handled large Workspace environments where not every user had the same data-retention requirements.
