Computer wont stop Scanning please help

my parents computer will not stop scanning. we let it run threw fully and nothing happens. Dose anyone know whats going on if you do could you please help, Also could we use a restore disk to maybe fix the problem???

What is scanning ? A virus scanner ?
Which one ?
They should all have a stop/pause/cancel scan function somewhere.
 
If you're not sure post a screenshot.
Print Screen into paint and upload as a JPG with go advanced > paperclip icon.
