Connected, not Connected. What?

Hello,

Novice here. I am having a hair-raising problem. My computer is a Compaq Presario and I connect to the internet through a Netgear router with a wireless adapter. It was working fine for a few weeks all of a sudden the wireless adapter says the is connected but IE and FF says there is no internet connection. I have reset the compter countless of times tried installing different drivers, all to no avail. My system restore is not working so that is out. I cannot afford another computer right now or I would have been burned this Compaq and the people who built it. :x

Try flushing the dns cache and repairing the connection:

ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /renew

You may also need to renew the dhcp client on your router by releasing and renewing the public IP address at the router's IP address from your browser.

Huh? I still am a novice.
I think I understand you. I will enter the commands, but the second part about dhcp and renewing the router's IP address, I am lost. please advise.
