create bootable external media problem

Using the 'create bootable external media' function I would like to create a usb flash boot disk. However the flash drive does not show up in the list of partitions in the partition combo box.

No, that's correct.
Can you please do EasyBCD | Useful Utilities | Power Console
Code:
bootgrabber /tlist

and copy and paste the output here?

Before I received your reply I formatted the flash drive again with a complete format. It then showed up in the combo box as drive N.

D:\Program Files\NeoSmart Technologies\EasyBCD\bin>bootgrabber /tlist

BootGrabber utility.

I then selected the BCD in drive N and added 2 entries. One to D and one to H.

Having modified the Rom bios I rebooted.

It did boot from the usb drive but nothing happened just a blank screen with a blinking cursor. So ctl alt del out.

In that case, I'll need the output of EasyBCD's "Detailed Mode" when the BCD from N: is loaded.

Addendum:

Oh, and did you format the USB from Windows Vista/7 or Windows XP?

I formatted from Windows 7. When I formatted with fat32 I got the blank screen with flashing cursor. When I formatted with NTFS I got 'disk read error'.

Here's the output of EasyBCD's "Detailed Mode" when the BCD from N: is loaded.

No, it's not making much sense to me.

I've seen cases like this in the past at work, but they're usually resolved along the lines of "try another USB drive" or "try from another PC."

FYI: Contacted the flash drive manufacturer Kingston Technology and got the following:

Please note that Kingston Technology does not provide any support with regards to making its flash products bootable

This capability was tested and although all steps required had been applied correctly, on some occasions it had not been possible to make it bootable.

This is also why it neither ships with nor is there any software available for download that could make it bootable.

You may however be able to find some third party software available for download which could achieve this aim, but please note that any damage or malfunction occurring to the product as a result is not covered under the warranty.
