Curious about Win 7 startup screen

the boot screen from Windows 7 is in the file:

C:\Windows\System32\bootres.dll

Now open the DLL with a resource hacking tool and extract the RC Data. This is a WIM file (the conatainer file for the Windows Vista/7 installation files). Mount it with DISM/ImageX and get the activity.bmp. This is the bitmap which contains all the animations.

Interesting indeed.... Can imagine a couple of nifty things to do with that (but not for me, I don't care much for customizing themes on my PC)

but you can't change it The file is digitally signed.

I also prefer the Bootscreen of the M3 PDC Build (6801)

You'd have to disable code signing to get that to work.

Have you tried to change the boot screen? Does it work?

Nope. But it's theoretically possible though I'm sure you'd have to dig deep to get it right.
