Dual-boot Windows 7 and Mageia ends in GRUB screen and grub> prompt

Hello,

I'm using EasyBCD 2.2 latest.
I have two hard drives, the first for Windows 7 and second Mageia (a GNU/Linux distribution).
My intention is to use Windows boot manager (boot menu) to list Mageia as an option.

During Mageia's installation I placed the bootloader (GRUB) on sdb1 (/) (root partition).

In EasyBCD it is listed as Drive 1, Partition 1, Linux, so I added that.
Type was GRUB (Legacy).
So I rebooted and chose this option (Mageia) from Windows' boot menu and it ends up in a black screen with some text "GRUB" at the top left of the screen. It's not a GRUB prompt, just four characters that says GRUB.
And it freezes.
I retried several times, the same.

So I tried all other logically relevant options in EasyBCD:
Legacy + Use EasyBCD's copy of GRUB
GRUB 2 + Automatically locate and load
GRUB 2 + manual partition select

Legacy + Use EasyBCD's copy of GRUB gave me a series of text ended in Error 11.

Any GRUB 2 options gave a GRUB prompt (grub>)

I've been using EasyBCD in the past with practically no problem.

This time it's a change.

Please help.

Not sure about the legacy or GRUB 2.

I booted up the live UFD, went konsole, did a grub-install --version it returns grub-install (GNU GRUB 0.97).

Hope that helps.

did you tick the box as mentioned in the sticky ?

The sticky refers to version 2.0 BETA, the information there is somewhat obsolete.

The "GRUB isn't installed to MBR/bootsector" option has become "Use EasyBCD's copy of GRUB" in version 2.2.

I did use that option as I mentioned earlier, ends up in Error 11.

Addendum

Before someone asks whether I am using the latest build, yes I am.
I am using the latest build at the moment which is 2.2.0.182.

Did you try deleting that entry and then not using EasyBCD's GRUB option and create a legacy GRUB option to boot?
