EasyBCD does't recognize XP

I made it. I couldn't boot into Windows 7 after installing XP, as a blue screen would appear. Then I remembered: since XP has trouble recognizing SATA disks, I selected IDE mode instead of SATA mode in the BIOS for the disk controller - long story short, this helped XP see the disk. Problem is I forgot about to put the option back to SATA and as a result Windows 7 would display a BSOD and restart instantly. So I managed to enter Win 7, installed EasyBCD under it, and added the Windows XP OS successfully!!

Thanks a lot for helping me .

Edit - yeah, now the boot menu works like a charm, except that I'm only able to boot one OS - if I pick SATA AHCI mode in BIOS, win 7 boots up, otherwise XP does. No option to appease both... guess that's because the nLited SATA drivers didn't really work under XP (which is the reason I tipped the SATA option in BIOS in the first place) so my past choices are catching up and I'll have to install the SATA drivers too. At any rate, the boot menu if perfectly fine, so thanks again!

I noticed late your post, I almost re-nLited another XP installation to copy to USB key, thankfully I didn't :grinning:
Anyway, I tried everything written in that thread, but I simply couldn't get the .reg file content right (guess I didn't put the right value in the vendor\device ID string) so instead I tried these instructions and then the bugger actually managed to boot into XP with AHCI mode enabled :happy:

Again, thanks for all the precious help!

I'll bookmark that link for future reference, thanks for sharing.

Glad things worked out, congratulations!

I have a similar problem to post #87.

I have only one hard disk with 4 partitions. I installed Windows XP, then Windows 7. Windows 7 automatically recognized the Windows XP partition and created the menu at start-up to choose Windows XP or Windows 7.

Then I had to re install Windows 7 so I formatted the windows 7 partition and re installed Windows 7 but now Windows 7 didn't recognize the Windows XP partition and didn't create the list from which to choose Windows XP or 7 during the boot up sequence.

So I tried to use EasyBCD Add New Entry with Automatically detect correct drive selected. However when I click Add Entry I get the following error message:

Failed to Add Entry!
EasyBCD failed to detect a valid installation of Windows NT-2003 on all mounted drives and was unable to continue.
