Feature Request: EasyBCD-like Boot Management for Linux/GRUB Environments

Dear NeoSmart Team and Community,

I'm writing to propose a new feature or even a standalone tool, similar to EasyBCD, but designed specifically for managing bootloaders in Linux environments, particularly GRUB and GRUB2.

EasyBCD has been an invaluable tool for Windows users, simplifying complex BCD edits and making dual-booting with various operating systems incredibly straightforward. However, for users who primarily operate within Linux or have complex Linux multi-boot setups, there isn't a comparable, user-friendly GUI tool that offers the same level of intuitive control over GRUB.

While grub-customizer exists, it often has its own set of issues and isn't as universally robust or user-friendly as EasyBCD is for Windows. Many users, especially those new to Linux or dealing with multiple distributions, find manipulating GRUB configuration files (grub.cfg, 40_custom, etc.) via command line or manual editing to be daunting and prone to errors.

My wishlist for such a tool would include:

  • Graphical Interface: A clear, intuitive GUI for managing GRUB entries, similar to EasyBCD's "Add New Entry" and "Edit Boot Menu" sections.
  • Automatic Detection: Ability to automatically detect installed Linux distributions, Windows installations (if present), and other bootable ISOs/VHDs.
  • Easy Entry Management: Simple options to add, remove, rename, and reorder boot entries prepaidcardstatus
  • Default Boot Entry Selection: Clearly define which OS should boot by default.
  • Timeout Customization: Easily set the boot menu timeout.
  • Advanced Options (Optional but desired):
    • Editing kernel parameters for specific Linux entries.
    • Hiding/unhiding partitions.
    • Support for different GRUB versions (GRUB Legacy, GRUB2).
    • Integration with system services for persistent changes.
  • Backup and Restore: A mechanism to backup and restore GRUB configurations.
  • Error Prevention/Validation: Warn users about potentially problematic configurations before applying changes.
I understand that the Linux boot ecosystem is different from Windows BCD, and creating such a tool would be a significant undertaking. However, given NeoSmart's expertise in boot management, I believe you are uniquely positioned to develop a solution that could greatly benefit the Linux community and make multi-booting more accessible to a wider audience.

Thank you for considering this idea!

Best regards,
Halen
