Fix MBR

I have a Dell Vostro 1500 running Windows Vista Home Premium.
Recently I installed Debian into a USB drive but I let it install GRUB on my internal drive. Now whenever I boot my laptop I have to have the USB HDD plugged in so GRUB can find the grub files to run.
I want to know if I run the EsayBCD and choose Manage Bootloader and then pick Reinstall Boot Loader and then click Write MBR will it restore my boot loader to a pre GRUB state.
From all I have read here and in the documents for EasyBCD it seems like this will work but I am just abit gun shy. I do not have my install CD's with me (actually I have misplaced them) so I do not have access to the utilities on them.
Any help is appreciated.
