I swear to God I'm crying.
I have Vista Home 32bit on my computer on a C: partition. I decided to dualboot XP by asking members of a forum for advice - well it led me to destroying Vista's boot thing.
So basically everytime I try to start Vista I get the '........./hal.dll is missing or corrupt. Please reinstall to continue' This makes me so damn angry.
I have a recovery CD that I made from this site (since the guys at Future Shop wanted to charge me $100 for something they said I could do myself)
I tried this http://neosmart.net/wiki/display/EBCD/Recovering+the+Vista+Bootloader+from+the+DVD
but all it leads me to is bootsect.exe not being a function or something.
Please help me - this is a week old pc and already I've messed it up, because XP doesn't even work properly anyways (with the resourceCD being Dell only)
Edit - looking 2 threads below me, I tried changing the path of the bootsect to my dvd drive but it tells me the device is not ready
