Hard Drive Not Been Seen

My Hard drive crashed, i tried to format it. after following all procedures now time for the real formatting to start. i keep getting the message that my hard drive cannot be seen. and again i do have vital documents inside the drive. please i need help on what to do and how to go about it. i have tried all a could do. can someone help me
 
How are you gonna format it if you have information on there that you need? A format will erase it.

You best option is to use a GParted LiveCD for this. I am not sure what steps you have taken to try and format but this is your best option.
