Help going from dual boot Vista/XP to just XP

My notebook came with Vista pre-installed. Thanks to EasyBCD, for a while I had a dual boot with Vista/XP to compare their performance. XP is the clear winner for me and now I would like to reclaim the Vista HD space for other stuff. As is, Vista has been on the C: partition and I installed XP on the D: partition. Before I format the C: partition I wish to confirm what to do in EasyBCD so my system will boot to XP on the D: partition...

Right now I have modified my setup so it boots straight to XP. In EasyBCD the settings are like this:

There is one entry in the Vista Bootloader.
Bootloader Timeout: 0 seconds
Default OS: Windows XP
Entry#1:
Name: Windows XP
BCD ID: {default}
Drive D:\ Bootloader
Path: \ntldr
Windows Directory:

My question is : is it safe to format the C: partition now, or is there another step to take first? Thanks for your help!

Hi Fritz-Fragohf, welcome to NeoSmart Technologies.

You're not the only one switching back from Linux - we've been monitoring the reports made here in the forums, and in the past month or so the trend is changing from XP->Vista to Vista->XP and Vista->Linux... but, that's neither here nor there I guess

Anyway, in answer to your question, I'd need more info about your configuration.

Good - no hacking needed

Bootloader Management | Restore XP Bootloader
Reboot.
You'll be back in XP. Format the C: partition, and you're set.

Thanks for your quick replies. =) Forgive my ignorance, but just to clarify 100%.. Did you mean? /Manage Bootloader /Uninstall the Vista Bootloader (use to restore XP) /Write MBR

Yeah.

Here're more details:

1. Do what you posted above.
2. Boot into XP.
3. Delete boot.ini from XP
4. Delete the Vista partition
5. Change the XP partition to the first, resize it, reboot.

Thanks for your help again. I did what was posted above, then:

2. Booted into XP.
...3. Delete boot.ini from XP
There was no boot.ini in the root directory (hidden & system files revealed). So I was prepared to skip this step.
... 4. Delete the Vista partition 5.
Within XP Disc management C: drive (with Vista) is marked as System, D: (with XP) as Boot. I cannot format the C: partition. Do I have to make the D: one the active one first?
